Schools Closed today

We do have a golf tournament coming up in a few weeks, out on the lakes. But we're playing with a racquetball and you get three clubs per person. I think the sign-up sheet also recommended bringing a sled to carry the beer...

Illinois State University is cancelled!!! -8 w/ wind chill making it -28!

Too bad I've got ANOTHER head cold :( or I'd be having a cigar right now.

Where is global warming when you need it. I kid I kid :p

I don't. :D

We got a call from the school district last night saying that if you'd like to keep your kids home from school today they won't mark it as an absence. I wonder how many kids actually went to school today in district 279? Poor teachers are probably sitting around looking at each other.

I would have sent our daughter to AM kindergarten however my wife has to drive her to school and pick her up. With our other two children (3 and 1) having to ride along I didn't think it was worth taking the risk. Why chance it for 2 1/2 hours of macaroni art and story time?

Frankly, I'm finding fewer and fewer reasons to love the cold and snow. I sold my snowmobile a few years ago. Haven't gone out snowboarding in 5 years and haven't even gotten out ice fishing this year due to illnesses going around in our family.

Good times...

My favorite is the line on The Weather Channel's website about the wind chill advisory, "MAKE SURE THAT YOU DRESS IN LAYERS... AND WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES. "

Right, because I'm going to be out stacking wood today.

I hope our poor brothers on the East Coast are managing to stay warm. :)

It is balmy 24F, the front hasn't gotten here yet.

Don't worry...I am sending more your way. We got about a 1" of snow today and its already moved out towards the East Coast. Still the best Weatherman I've seen on TV was for the local station in Salt Lake City back between 1992 to 1994. I forgot what year it was now. He said there is 2 storm fronts moving in and we are expecting just 6" of snow. Ok, I could live with that. But he was a tad off. Ok..more than a tad off. He missed the mark by 84". We got 90" of snow in less than 1 1/2 days. He no longer worked at the station for that blunder. I can't remember what they said the Mountains got. I know it was in excess of 20'+. It was so bad I had to get on the roof and shovel the snow off so it wouldn't collapse. Needless to say, we still had snow in out back yard till June/July that year.

Minnesotans are wimps, I guess. My high school hasn't closed for the weather since it's founding in 1842. I'm sure it's been minus 30 or lower a couple times since then. It was a balmy -22 where I was this morning. Windy. Schools were open.
