Hey everyone,
I have a semi job offer with Schlumberger, at the Elmira NY location. I was just wondering if anyone has any valuable input on the company. The position I was offered/applying for is a Mechanical Technician. I would love to hear what others think of the company. Thanks guys and gals!

I don't know about your position or that area. I do like that they are hiring and with the presidents new orders for offshore drilling I'm looking at increasing my stock holdings.

I worked in oil and gas for about 10 years as a geologist for the Hunt Brothers. Schlumberger (Big Blue) logged most all of our wells.

It's a good job for someone who doesn't mind living on caffeine and adrenaline. They're a good company with great benefits and you'll get some valuable experience, but they run their field technicians and JFE's pretty hard.

Schlumberger is an OUTSTANDING company to work for. I have never worked for them myself, but I have many friends that have. Some are now retired with GREAT retirement benefits and others are still employed with them. The only I CAN say about Schlumberger is to be cautious of hiring on with them and the area you are hiring on for. I know that they have closed quite a few of their operations down within the last few years and would just be inquisitive as to whether employement with them would be as permanent as you hope. They do work their people very hard and have high expectations for everyone that they employ, but they are a great company with many opportunities once you have established yourself. Good luck to you, and congrats on the new career opportunity shold you decide to take it.

Thanks for the input guys. I am very excited about this. I was a Marine so working hard isn't a problem with me

The area I am going to Elmira NY I think is pretty safe. They are in the process of expanding their operations with a new installation.
