Sam Adams

I was excited to try the dopplebock, but it wasn't that great IMO. I've had SA beers that had nice malt profiles before (the double bock in six packs and a Longshots weizenbock ), but this one was pretty muddled to me. I'll give the others a try as well.

That's by far my favorite SA beer I've had.

LOVED the Longshot Weizenbock (I actually have a bottle left...I should do a review here!). But Justin, with your emergent HopHead tendancies, I'd have thought you would have liked the Imperial Pilsener, too?

Wasn't a fan. What the hell is the point of an imperial Pilsner, Helles, etc anyways?

While all of you talk about ELITISTs attitudes, I just want to drink beer  :sign: :sign:

LOL, Well I had 1 each of the Imperial Doppelbock and Imperial Stout, and I have to say I was a bit impressed. Not the watered down taste that you get from a Sam Adams. Don't get me wrong but Sam Adams has some really nice consistant brews, but since drinking the likes of the Abyss, Black Butte XX, Speedway Stout, GIBCS, and other heavy beers my taste buds have not been the same. The doppelbock tasted a bit like there Chocolate Bock but without the chocolate and steep price.

This Imperial Series has some flavor and stickiness that isn't half bad, I did not expect from Sam Adams.
:D :D

Palate-crushing hops and a swift kick in the seat from the ABV...what other purpose would there be?

Anybody know what the ABV on this is? I'm wondering if we'll be able to get it or not here.

I say you're all nerds and/or elitists and I'd be more than happy to blind test any and all beers in an unbiased fashion. Rip off the label and send away.

Correct addy in profile.

The other thing is the elitist attitude that seems to have permeated the beer forum. It's beer for Christ's sakes, not French wine. That's why I don't post much here anymore.
Doc, I respect the hell out of you and always have, but I have to take issue with this statement. This is exactly the kind of mindset that craft beer aficionados are trying to overcome; The idea that beer...

I got about this far before I moved on.

Then why bother replying?

Probably because he can if he chooses to. Philcker, I completely agree with you. Some people don't quite understand how intricate craft beer really can be.

...and some folks don't know when their pockets are being picked. :whistling:

Doc.

Doc.

Forty dollars for 5 minutes of lap dance is a pretty good pocket picking, but at least you're helping the girl get through school. :)

It's easy to spend money on quality beer being made by quality human beings. It's an entirely different experience as well. Like anything, you get what you pay for.

To highlight my short attention span, of course. I'm suggesting that, if you can't say it in three or four sentences, you're repeating yourself or rambling.

Let me give you guys a for instance. Two weeks to the day, I went to my friends shop and bought a 20 oz bottle of beer with a fancy caged champagne cork. I don't remember the name of the beer. There was no reason to. It tasted like a bad loaf of bread. I couldn't finish it. It cost me $12. Now if you were to run into one of my shipmates and said to them, "Doc couldn't finish his beer", they'd ask if I was on my death bed. And this isn't the first time. Half the time these so called craft beers suck. You are all being sold a bill of goods because some self-appointed expert said it was the be all, and end all. I've drank beer all over the world, some good, some fair and some horrible, as far as I'm concerned the American craft brewing industry is overrated. If you got to take out a home equity loan to buy a six pack, you're being screwed. Beer just ain't that expensive to produce; of course fancy red painted bottles and caged corks are.

Doc.

We can agree to disagree then. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and you've made yours known quite clearly. Either the beers you're trying don't appeal to you or none of them ever will (due to price, perceived elitism, whatever), but there's no use in arguing about it. We all like different things. Though I do think your opinion and broad generalization of the American craft brewing industry is a touch off-base, I appreciate your willingness to try some of them from time to time. Your comments directed towards those of us who enjoy this "hobby" came off as a bit disparaging, so I hope you a) excuse my trying to explain myself in my last post and b) don't look down on us too much for drinking "fancy" beer :D .

Perhaps some day one of us will be able to put together a package of beers you'll enjoy...perhaps not. Either way, you're still OK in my book.

P.S. - Apologies for the long-windedness, Bruce.

The price of hops has actually gone from $3.50 a lb (which was a hike) to around $15 a lb. That's a price hiker, especially considering that hops is the foremost important ingredient (besides water) in the craft beers most of us are drinking. Then you have a lot of overhead costs that come with being a small business. Distribution. Storage. These guys tend to well by their employees as well.

I do see where you're coming from. I'm at a point now where I only experiment 'a little here and there' with beer. Too much crap I don't like, and often that is the sh.t that comes in those big 20 oz bottles.

And Doc, are you going to let Bruce talk smack to you like that?

:) Just kidding, both of you.
