Anyone else feel like food from places is just getting more and more difficult to get good quality, consistently? Had crap pizza from Papa Johns last week, then Giordano’s produced inedible deep dish pizza with raw/undercooked dough. There’s been other occasions throughout the year also, ranging from fast food, fast casual, to casual/formal dinning.

I mean, I get that the jobs suck to work, but hell, I worked as a sandwich maker at age 16-18 and always produced top quality orders.

Rant over.

Restaurant quality has taken a nose dive since covid. There is one here locally that used to be a go to, that we haven't been to for years now after too many crappy meals.

Parshally the people but you also have to blame the company's for the crappy ingredients they buy now to save money. In corporate America money is king not your health or quality of food.

You’re welcome to come to New Haven C. We’ll get you a classic thin crust pie and a Grinder you’ll need to hands to eat!

Restaurant quality has taken a dive while costs have gone up. In fact a lot of places have gone from making things fresh to buying premade frozen stuff.

And most places I have been to have trouble finding workers or keeping them. It sucks.

There is one place in particular near me that used to be our favorite restaurant to eat at, and now it’s the exact opposite. We pop in there from time to time to see if anything has changed, but sadly it has not.

I hate using Covid as a scapegoat, but it is the reality. Between lower quality ingredients, moving to pre-made from fresh, and a new generation of workers that are entitled and feel like they are owed a wage instead of earning a wage....it is hard to find the quality that we should be getting

Got to tell you, there's a couple little dive bars locally with amazing food. Just took an out of town friend to one for dinner and he was blown away at the food. Sure, it's basic grub but it's fresh and well done. I've found the small, local guys are the best bet, overall. The flip side is my youngest is a chef at the downtown Hilton here in the 'Couv, and I know their food is fresh and well done as I've got an inside man there....

It's like they're trying to make bad food these days. I had a burger last month that was drier than the Sahara. I swear, sometimes I think they're just throwing stuff together and hoping for the best.

On the plus side. I had a Jersey Mikes Pastrami that was worth every penny.
I'm a big fan of Jersey Mikes; there is just something about their turkey club that I LOVE! They remind me of Quiznos, in regards to their level of quality ingredients.

I think the problem is expecting chains to serve you quality food, especially in the post Covid slow burn apocalypse. Their job is to extract maximum profit while meeting minimum legal standard, your Subway “sandwich artist” is just what Effraim has been doing since he got fired by USPS until his tik tok takes off. Sort of like going to cigarbid and getting a “really good deal” on Gurkhas, at the end of the day it’s still a Gurkha. If you want “decent” chain food spend an extra $10 and go to Cheesecake Factory or a Flemings or something, otherwise go local where you will find folks who care (personally) about their business/reputation/craft.

I totally get this, and for the most part, we eat at local, or very small chains. And the locals are better by far, no contest - when it comes to food.
Service is hit or miss it seems no matter where I go, but often in my area of East California, some call it Colorado, it most times hits closer to the miss mark. There are exceptions, and we are learning where they are for sure, and those places get my business. I think what frustrates me the most is the level of apathy for a job well done....

Well, I have a free night tonight and my best safe pick is going to be some good Mexican with great verde sauce, it's that or take a long drive to visit @thinde, but gas prices holiday time are higher. Funny, wife and I were just talking last night about our teen and 20 years when there was nothing but fresh food and no additives. Hell to be old and remember those "good" days.
