Cigar: Ramón Allones Specially Selected 50 x 5 (ish) from '07
Pre-Light: A warm Ohio evening in my aforementioned man cave. The cigar came from a beer for cigar trade last year and my drink of choice was Four Roses Small Batch from my Secret Santa.
The cigar was typical CC. Wrapper was slightly bumpy with no large veins. A almost perfect draw with my punch. I have heard the smell of CC described as barnyard once or twice and have to agree. Cigar was neither heavy nor light and the pre-light draw was perfect.
First Third: RASS, I almost forgot how much I loved thee. The first couple of puffs reminded me quickly, tasting of earth and leather. Nothing overpowering, but a tasteful treat for a palate that has been dormant these long winter months. There was a hint of dry cedar as well.
Second Third: Leather was the main note here, with a little cedary spice for good meausre. This cigar was a treat. Smoke poured from it and the draw was perfectly natural. The flavours were there, but not so much "the in your face" sort of way. At this point I am think this might be the perfect cigar to relax with a friend or two and catch up on old times.
Final Third: Alas all good things come to an end. I am not sure if it was the heat or what, but the last inch or so got a little twang. Not bad, but out of balance with the rest of the cigar. The ash stayed an off grey and held well and smoke production was amazing.
Conclusions: A fantastic cigar, a must smoke. Forget chasing Rare Fuente's fellow Newbies and get some RASS. I promise you won't be disappointed.
I ran out of Four Roses. So I switched to Flying Dog Garde Dog and have to say I might buy a case or 4 of this a put away as a go to Spring/Summer cook out brew.
The moral of the Story...If you have a fiver or more or RASS you don't want PM me.
