R.I.P. Kurt Vonnegut

Wow, this hits me close. Vonnegut was one of my favorite writers, absolutely brilliant.

I don't say this often, but truly rest in peace Kurt.

Now's your chance to thumb your nose at God.

I'm not the literary kind of guy but I do remember reading some of his work during undergrad and it was very insightful.

However, I enjoyed his cameo in the Rodney Dangerfield movie "Back to School."

RIP Kurt.

I never was a huge fan of Vonnegut, but his passing certainly does mark the end of a certain era. I definitely hope he R.I.P.

Now, when Tom Robbins passes, that's something that will hit me a bit harder.

"The universe is a big place, Perhaps the biggest."

I too hope he was able to thumb his nose at the end.
R.I.P. Kurt

Oh man. "Kilgore Trout", "Trafalmador". Slaughterhouse 5 was and is a huge achievement. "Montana Wildhack"!!!!! Kurt, you was a stitch.

I started reading Vonnegut in college. I think Breakfast of Champions was my first. He really turned me on to reading. And yeah, he was strange, but if you think that's a bad thing... I went from Vonnie to Steinbeck to Hemmingway to Huxley to Orwell to etc etc. Vonnegut really opened things up for me, I feel I owe him one big time. Perhaps a Tatuaje in the afterlife...

The Free-Thinking Humanist. A true original. God bless him.

Wow. I hadn't caught this on the news yet. Slapstick was one of the first novels I remember reading...he will bemissed though his works live on.

Read him in high school along with Joseph Keller, now i find out they lived together, what a small world! :)

Greetings! Mark Twain mentioned earlier that Mr. Vonnegut was a life long smoker. He did live to a nice age, though. Kurt Vonnegut, a Pall Mall cigarette smoker himself, uses the brand in several of his novels. He has been quoted as saying that they are "a classy way to commit suicide." By the way, Pall Mall's are also among my favorite smokes. Mr. Vonnegut will be missed. Regards, knightlaird

There are three people with whom I fantasize having a beer and a cigar:

Benjamin Franklin, Nikola Tesla, and Kurt Vonnegut.

I not only enjoyed his books; but, I empathized with his life and views on the world. One of his ideas is somewhat related to cigar forums in that it is a second, and larger, family. This idea he had was to give everyone an additional name. Each of these names would be shared widely by enough people such that where ever you went there would be family to welcome you!

Just like CP! :D

When asked about our Psychopathic Personalities(PPs) that run our government and corporations, here is how he viewed them:

"What has allowed so many PPs to rise so high in corporations, and now in government, is that they are so decisive. Unlike normal people, they are never filled with doubts, for the simple reason that they cannot care what happens next. Simply can't. Do this! Do that! Mobilize the reserves! Privatize the public schools! Attack Iraq! Cut health care! Tap everybody's telephone! Cut taxes on the rich! Build a trillion-dollar missile shield! Fuck habeas corpus ... and kiss my ass!"

Bingo! ;)

R.I.P. Kurt ... And so on.
