Don't suppose this will get much attention in other parts, but this is a loss of truly one of the great ol' Keys boys for us. He was a great one, and his place in Key West (the original location of Sloppy Joes) is one of a kind.

R.I.P. Cap't. You will be missed.

Like ol' Jimmy said...a legend never dies.

Last Mango In Paris

For all the living legends I’ve had the pleasure to know. There’s still so much to be done.” - Jimmy

I went down to Captain Tony’s to get out of the heat
When I heard a voice call out to me, “Son, come have a seat”
I had to search my memory as I looked into those eyes
Our lives change like the weather but a legend never dies

He said, “I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
And Jimmy, there’s still so much to be done

I had a third world girl in Buzios
With a pistol in each hand
She always kept me covered
As we moved from land to land
I had a damn good run on wall street
With my high fashion model wife
Til I woke up dry beneath the African sky
Just me and my Swiss Army knife

I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
And Jimmy there’s still so much to be done

We shot the breeze for hours
As the sun fell from the skies
And like the sun he disappeared before my very eyes
It was somewhere past dark-thirty
When I went back to the head
I read upon the dingy wall
The words the old man said

I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
And Jimmy there’s still so much to be done

Why don’t we wander and follow la vie dansante

RIP, I've been to Capt Tony's and enjoyed a few cold beverages there with my brother and son.

I was there two years ago and had a brew or two. Smooth Sailing Captain.

Yep! Spent a few weeks at NAS Key West when my unit went down there for "training".

Three things stand out in my mind:

One was going to a wet T shirt contest at Tony's. That contest was more than just a wet T........Those girls got nekid, and when they got nekid, they got horny. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

The other time a buddy and I were just walking around when we noticed this bar where everyone had to sit on stools outside surrounding the establishment. We decided to have a seat and order a few beers. We could not have been there two minutes when I noticed a few guys staring. Then we noticed there were no women to be found, and a few of the guys were a little "cozy" with each other. Both of us quietly finished our beers and got the hell out of Dodge. I believe that place was called The Green Parrot if I remember correctly. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. :(

The funniest memory was this Captain in our unit who had a call name of Pyro. He was really drunk at Sloppy Joe's when one of the bartenders asked him how he got the name. He goes behind the bar, grabs a bottle of 151 Bacardi, swigs a mouthful, grabs a lighter and proceeds to shoot this huge fireball out of his mouth. Of course this was all much to the dismay of the management of Sloppy Joe's. They kicked him out, and he proceeded to head out into the street to steal some poor guys rickshaw. The last thing I saw of him that night was him going down the street, and by the time the owner of the rickshaw realized what was going on, it was too late. He showed up a few days later to fly like nothing had ever happened.

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hands.

RIP my friend...I will miss you.
