Quick! decision time! Help! I BOUGHT IT...

Andrew,
Are the beads wet (clear)?
You need to makes ure 60% - 70% of the beads are wet. If the sticks are soaking up a lot of moisture, you may need to check the beads often until the RH levels off

Dave

I've been wetting the beads when they start turning white, but the unit was running. it's now sitting... off, with the beads, 2 topless LGC boxes and the 1 wooden box. No cigars in it yet, they're still sittin in my humi, I need to make sure the boxes are nice and seasoned before putting them in.

Sounds like you're doing what you need to do. I didn't realize the boxes weren't coming from a humidified environment.

Good luck!

wiped down the boxes one last time last night, beads are still nice and moist, everything was good, put the hygro back in, after about an hour or so, it was at 66%, good.

Woke up in the morning, it was sitting at 67% (the hygro was next to an ounce of 70% beads, the 65's are at the bottom).

Looks like she's holdin' steady. If it's still at about 65% when I get home, I'll toss in my sticks and plug the unit in, setting it to 65 degrees.

I think I'm havign some issues.

I checked last night when I got home and the wineodor was holding right at 66%, perfect. I added all my sticks, moistned the beads again, and turned the unit on. woke up this morning and the unit was at 42%. I rewet the beads and let it sit. if it's low when I get home at 2am i'm going to have to take the cigars out and put them back in the regular humi...

I dont know what's up.

Came home from work at 2am, and what do ya know....47% humidity.

Not good.

Any suggestions other than "add more beads!!!" because I've only got about 1.5 ounces left, with 1/2 pound sitting in the humi as I write this.

Sometimes if the wood is very dry, it can take weeks to stabilize. Also, don't add any sticks until that thing has been stable for a week.

here's the update: unplugges, it sits at 65 or 67% perfectly, doesnt budge. when it's plugged in, it drops to about 40-50%.

Whenever it;s plugged in, it seems asthough the fan in the back is always running, and there are always waterdroplets on the heatsink attached the cooling element (behind the fan).

Perhaps I should reverse the fan to blow away from the heatsink, or disable said fan? It seems to be drawing ALL the moist air to the cooling element 100% of the time.

No, don't modify it. It needs to work that way. If it is running all the time, you need to set the temp warmer. The digital display and the true temp do not always match. Use a thermometer/hygro. I set mine to 63 and it is actually more like 68. Set it warmer. I think anything under 70 is fine. And move the unit to a cooler location if possible....the floor in a closet or in the path of the air conditioning etc.
