Question on new box purchases - seals broken

Something weird happened with my recent purchase of a box of Undercrown Shade. I buy a lot of 5s, but recently bought 6 boxes of cigars in two orders.

The Undercrown Shade was shrink wrapped in plastic as were the other boxes, but the fancy seal paper was neatly slit such that when I removed the shrink wrap I could just slide the lid off, it not held by the seal. It was neatly slit before being shrink wrapped.

All the other boxes and all the others I remember buying over the years had intact seals. I'm not particularly worried, and I always buy boxes when they're on sale, I suppose it could have been opened by the retailer for display purposes or something then re-shrink wrapped. I've just never seen this before. I'm not at all worried about it just curious.

Have any of you seen this before?

Yes. However, if concerned call the retailer and ask them why. Sometimes they'll toss in a Bovada pack in the box.

some retailers open the box to check for damage, but if you got them through Cigar Page, I do not think they do. My guess is that they swapped in some re-banded Backwoods for your tasty Undercrown

Thanks for the replies. Nice to know it’s not unusual. I had just never seen it. Not at all concerned. I’m not sure if it was cigar page or not, I’ll have to look. Cigar Page was my last order, though. They’re great. Super prices. Prompt delivery and they advertise here. Win, win, win!

I’ve heard of other “places” that will upon having a order rejected for some reason or another, ask the buyer to ship them elsewhere, while they ship a replacement to that buyer.

However, I wouldn’t suspect that in this case. Perhaps it was just a box they inspected and shrink wrapped back up.

I've had it happen to me in the past, and when I asked about it the vendor said it was for quality control. They open the box and inspect to make sure there are no damaged sticks in the box. If there are any damaged ones, they would replace them with good ones from another box before shipping out the box you purchased.
