I'm new to these forums but thought you gentlemen/gentlewomen would be kind enough to take a look at this ashtray my friend made below. He's interested in selling something like this and I thought it would be good to get advice from people who love cigars. I apologize in advance if this is the wrong section or if this post is inappropriate. Please let me know what you think something like this is worth or how you might improve upon it. Thanks!

Cool ashtray. No idea what it's worth per se but it looks cool. A bit shallow so he'd want to make it deeper for sure.

Fill out an introduction and stick around. Maybe your friend should also introduce himself.

Welcome!

I might suggest you go to the "introduce yourself" part of the forum and check the rules here. It'll save you a lot of grief later. I will say though, other than being a little shallow, that's a very nice ashtray. He may run into some cracking over time due to it being turned end grain. Changes in temperature and humidity can cause issues. What kind of wood is it?

Thanks for the comments! I'll ask him to join, as well.

Make sure you guys read the rules Rod has pinned in the Intro forum.

I might suggest coating the bottom in cyanoacrylate to add stability to the grain. It should help stabilize the wood. I would just use it the way it is and see how it goes over time.
