Has anyone had experience with any of the following brands of lighters:

Promethius
Lotus
Xikar
IM Corona

?

My ideal torch flame lighter is reliable, fashionable, and user friendly with low cost of upkeep. I will primarily be using it with a pipe.

In my experience there are no reliable torch lighters. They all break, eventually. If you must, get one with a substantial warranty and keep all your sales slips. Oh, and by the way, you should introduce yourself in the intro forum, even if girls don't have to.

Doc.

I'm near to giving up on torches. Unless you're one of the purists, switch to a Bic or even a Zippo. Might be time for me to do a post mortem on a few of mine to see if I can bring them back to life.

ST Dupont X-Tend... nothing else compares, IMHO. :D

I like using cedar sleeves and matches when they are available.

But do you clip or punch you're cigar.

When and where I am smoking helps determine what I use to light my cigar.

As far as the products listed....I like the Extend.....but if you 'search' the site you will see that and other opinions! ;)

If you want a good warranty get a Xikar....its for life

I have the following:

Xikar (1.5yrs) -- need to send it in for repair
Colibri (5yrs old) -- still kicking
Lotus - (1yr old) -- still kicking LOVE it
Lotus Table Top (1month) -- Love it

The Lotus ones have a 2 year warranty. Xikar is for life, dont know what colibri is

Xikar has a lifetime warranty. That's the best deal available. They will all stop working at some point.

-edit for spelling-

I've owned a ton of torches. Yes, they eventually clog/break. However, I'm the kind of nerdy guy that takes them apart and either completely screws them up, or fixes them. Most of them are pretty simple once you break them up -- especially the battery operated cheapies.

If you wanna go cheap,

That by far is the best deal for cheapies, IMO. They are stupidly hot, stupidly over the top with the 3 torches, and they have ridiculous flashy lights. But, if you take it apart, its a quick snip of 2 wires to disable the lights without ruining the firing mechanism. In my experience with them, they last a pretty decent while, and they won't break the bank -- YMMV. Order four for $20 and you'll be covered for a long while. Use premium butane on the refill though, they clog somewhat easily, but, again, taking these apart and unclogging them is simple.

If you wanna get one for several years, go Xikar or Blazer PB-207. The PB-207 just keeps going (USE PREMIUM BUTANE). I've had mine for YEARS. The Xikar I have no personal experience with-- but it's a Xikar. Xikar = Quality + Lifetime Warranty, you can't go wrong there.

I recently had a Colibri bite the dust. F you Colibri.

I have one of the flashy ones as described above and it worked better out of the box than my new Xikar Ellipse triple flame. That being said however, the Xikar has a lifetime warranty and they have always been great with warranty service in my experience.

I have spent a small fortune on torch lighters. The best ones cost $5.00, IMHO. My buddy bought a Xikar and AFAIK it is still working. I really like the Xikar cutters. I almost bought a Dupont a while back. I somehow managed to restrain myself.

Zippos impose that nasty taste. Bic lighters are difficult to lite, keep going, and get pretty hot.

After seeing the good plug for Dupont, I might actually get one.

Don't get carried away. Mine died within three months.

I appreciate the replies, you guys really seem to know what you're talking about. I will have to look into Xikar for their lifetime warranties. Since I will be using this lighter almost exclusively for a pipe, could you recommend me a particular model from Xikar? Has anyone had experience with the Lotus L25 lighter (here: http://www.elighters.com/l2540.html)?

Also, if anyone knows a good cigar shop in St. Louis, I'm open to suggestions ... I'd much rather prefer to see the lighter I'm buying up close before spending any money.

I can't recommend a torch for you, but I do advise you to be careful with the torch lighter. They can scorch the rim of your pipe something fierce if you're a little off or pointing them at an angle.

That's surprising...

Best lighter I have right now is the 5 dollar thing I got at a local gas station. Been abused, neglected, and yet it still keeps going.
