Well, a very good friend of mine from High School is graduating from Notre Dame in May and the wife and I have every intention of making it out there to celebrate his achievement. I'm hoping that between his graduating, family, and commencement ceremony he and I will have time enough to enjoy a good smoke together (possibly with his father considering the fact that he's the man that got me into smoking cigars.) The question I have is: Are there any good establishments in South Bend or within driving distance where we would be able to enjoy a few cigars and some good spirits? It could be BYOB as I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem.

Don't know where you can find a place to smoke but I will tell you, if you have not been there, that the ND campus is heaven on earth and I have not been back there in wayyyy to much time.

Go Irish !

There are almost no places now. Even places that let you smoke cigarettes, ban cigars. There are no cigar stores with a good lounge.

That leaves La Salle Lounge in downtown South Bend. This is on the third floor above the La Salle Grill Restaurant. It's very nice and they have a nice Bourbon, Scotch, Cognac selection as well as other spirits and they serve them correctly. They also have couches and chairs and is not just set up with tables and booths. Usually they have a jazz band on the weekends. It's upscale wouldn't wear jeans. It's also very popular with the ND crowd so it will probably be packed in evenings during graduation. Parking is also a problem Downtown. Tim and I go a couple of times a year it's a nice change of pace.

Houlahans, regular restaurant with a bar that still allows cigars. Very noisy can't hardly talk, service is average, all tables and booths. It's next door to South Bend in Mishawaka.

Also in Mishawaka is Ruth Chris (upscale), they said you can smoke cigars in the bar when the wife and I were there for dinner. I peeked in and it looked like it was just tables and booths. Have not actually smoked there. That's about it for public smoking.

Tim and I love to herf with other CP Brothers. If it works we can try to herf at one of our houses, Tim is very close to ND, I'm about 15 minutes east in Osceola. If not we can try to meet up with you somewhere.

Hope that helps.

Exactly the kind of advice I was looking for! Thank you! I think at the moment we're planning on staying on the Campus to save in hotel charges and I am really looking forward to this trip. When it gets closer to the time of getting out there I'll shoot you a PM to see if we can get together to light one up.

Thanks again,
Kyle

I lived there last year. No exaggeration, some weeks I went four or five times. There are definitely some benefits from being a regular ... oh yes.

I don't think that there are any regulars except for MBA's ... maybe a few ND Law, but 90% MBA, EMBA, faculty and alumni. Ask if Sarah's working, she's beautiful, sweet, wonderful, and has a wicked sense of humour.

Totally agree. I graduated in 07 although we mostly smoked on campus (try going for a walk around the lakes with a smoke - pretty awesome) Lasalle was the only place I knew of. Enjoy the trip!

Al's Granger Store I think won't be open till June. If before that it should be nice assuming the VIP room is similar to Warsaw. Have you been to Warsaw's Angelina's store yet? Much nicer than Plymouth. I moved my locker to there.
