Growing too fast.
Another workweek done, got home a little early and am firing up a PSD No. 5. Nice looking cigar with medium brown wrapper that has noticeable oil and one prominent vein running the length. It has a good weight to it, firm when squeezed, and with the cap punched I find a perfect draw with taste of fresh, sweet tobacco.
After getting foot burning well, my first draw is powerful black pepper spice on the throat and in the nose with the smoke a good medium to almost full body. I can definitely tell this is fresh Partagas tobacco. About a quarter inch in the powerful spice mellows down rather quickly and flavors are rich with the smoke feeling thick on the palate. Toasted nuts and a very good woodiness come through with taste of vanilla and citrus tantalizing my tongue. Delicious!
The burn is good with a compact, dark gray ash forming that holds well until tapped off. Smoke is flowing well in the perfect draw and continuing to be a good medium to almost full in body. Flavors continue to be that of toasted nut, wood, vanilla and citrus with a nice twang to it. The finish lasts long on the palate, and I can’t help but smack my lips from the delicious flavors.
A little over halfway, the smoke seems to mellow as the spice did in the first quarter inch, becoming very smooth. I purge the cigar and give it a good minute then take a long draw and smoke pours out in abundance with deliciously rich flavors still coming through. The burn continues to be good with a dark gray ash forming, the finish lasting well after exhaling. The youth of the tobacco really came through in the end with a good amount of nicotine giving me a nice buzz.
This was a very good cigar to be so fresh with good burn, delicious flavors, and excellent finish that lasted long on the palate. I can only see these cigars getting better with age, much better IMHO. The only thing is it just didn’t last very long. Excellent cigar!
