I ordered a Padrón 6 cigar taster pack (one Maduro and Natural of each 2000, 3000 and 4000) from MDcigar and have a question regarding Padrón's wrapper leaves. I can barely tell the difference between the maduro and natural due to the color, they are so dark they look almost identical. Is this normal for Padrón cigars?

I thought that maduro wrappers are always alot darker than natural, but these being my first padróns I'm not sure what the norm is.

Here is the picture on MDcigar's website of the sampler pack.

That is however NOT how the cigars look... all of them almost look like the darker color cigars in the picture, but one of each is a slightly redder shade.

I wish Padrón would write on the band maduro for the maduro cigars... it would make life alot easier.

Ok after taking the following picture I can say that one each of the 2000 and 3000 are slighty darker than the other, but both of the 4000 are the same color.

Also I thought all padrón cigars are boxed pressed only one of the cigars is really flat on two sides (the one I marked with red dots) the other are slighty flat but still almost round. All of the bands are tightly wrapped.

??? ??? ??? ???

I was hoping someone could set me straight here...

Padron natural wrappers are pretty dark. I'd say Colorado-maduro. Padron maduro wrappers, at least in the regular line are not very dark. Probably just maduro, certainly not oscuro like some La Gloria Cubanas. I just got in a box of 2000 maduro and they are not nearly as dark as the Aniiversario or 1926 maddies. So, yes, I'd say that's par for the course.

As for the box press, the press on the regular line is light. Slightly flat on two sides and bulgy on the other. Again, the press is much more pronounced on the Annis and 1926.

So, I'd just kick back and light em up...after a a little rest. They're exactly what they should be.

the left ones of the first two pairs are the maduro. i'm not sure about the third pair. those both look natural to me.

So that the wrappers on the 4000s are exactly the same color is cool? I trust MD Cigars (received excellent customer service on a problem I had) but mistakes do happen.

I was just wondering if maybe I received 2 natural wrappers by accident.

That's entirely a possibility. That they gave you two nats/mads by mistake.

As for the color, I can't tell from the photo...and if you really want to be sure, do this. Take two pairs of smokes (say, the 2K and 4Ks) and look at them under several different lighting conditions. Due to an optical effect called metamerism, things that look exactly the same color under one illumination can look dramatically different under a different source. Incandescent, fluorescent, sodium (street or warehouse) and daylight for example. My guess is that Padron uses color-corrected lighting to do shade matching when they pack and this is typically a spectrum balanced to match daylight.

Ive used three different light sources... in all cases with the 2000 and 3000 one cigar is darker, however both 4000 are exactly the same color *edit* and they both match the lighter natural color of the 2000 3000.

Oh well mistakes happen :) I'm still looking forward to these smokes when they have at least a few months of age on them. I plan to let the 2000 maduro the 3000 natural and lol I quess one of the 4000 naturals sit for over a year

I have had many boxes of Padrons. Sometimes I've seen naturals that are darker than the Maduros, sometimes they're the same. The Anniverseries- there's no question which one is maduro or natural

Thats why I said it would be nice if Padrón put "Maduro" on the band. Save n00bs like me a headache.

While I cant tell from the picture, often the Maduros are light, almost the same color as the maduros in the regular padron line, and its very hard to tell. It is possible that who ever picked the order could have made a mistake of course, we have over 450 open boxes in the shop, but the 4000 maduros we currently have in stock also look a little light.

Drop an email to Brian and he can send you replacments to be sure..
or call us at the shop. I am not there at the moment.

Thanks for the fast reply , I already sent an email to Brian asking for you to take a look into this thread.

I quess I'm just used to the coal black maduro wrapper.

And its not a big deal. Natural or Maduro I'm sure these are awesome smokes.

I'm just hoping you guys get the fumas I ordered in soon :D

Now that is service!

Everyones pretty much right here...their naturals are pretty dark and their maduros are pretty light. But you should still be able to tell the difference between the two...even if it is a slight difference. Id email the company and ask em whats up...maybe they did send a wrong order??
