Packing a bottle for shipment

Ok, I searched and didn't find. Would you post your recommendations for packing a bottle of expensive (to me, expensive) hooch for shipment?

I tend to wrap the bottle twice with the small bubble wrap and then I cushion it around all of the edges with a good bunch of wadded newspaper. So far no casualties.

I have a can of the foam stuff, but I don't want to "Swissy" the bottle*. I might just do the bubble wrap - enough for them to drop it on the addressee's house from the airplane

* also known as doing a "Moki". var. serious Moki. Encasing the object in a hard substance

You should have sent AVB a PM as he sends out tons of bottles with the Scotch Group Buys he does.

You could also bubble wrap THEN use the foam. Then all it would take to get the bottle out would be getting through to it (i.e., you wouldn't have to peel foam of the bottle, just get the bottle out)

If you don't have the Styrofoam holders that I use then a double wrap of large bubble wrap and about an inch of peanuts around that in a good box. That should take care of anything short of being run over.

Except if your UPS man likes to play drop kick football with it as we have seen from a package of last year. :(

Yeah, seeing Smoky's bottle still causes me nightmares.

The one time I sent a bottle I packed it in a box just big enough to pack it well with bubble wrap and peanuts and then put that box in a bigger box surrounded by peanuts. It worked really well, but it may have been overkill...

:)

Is there somewhere those can be purchased? I was considering trying to make some with tuff stuff and seran wrap.

I just wrap in glad wrap. Then foam it. Makes it easy and clean once you break away the foam. I also purchased from an online retailer that shipped the bottles in a styrofoam case that fit neatly inside a box. It had compartments just for bottles. Maybe a packing store will have something like these for you.

I don't know what you used but it left the tube all sticky. Maybe just regular plastic wrap would be better then the sealing kind.

I sent out a bottle recently. I packed it, wrapped in bubble wrap, in a tupperware, in a box. As long as the bottle is secure in the tupperware and box, it should be fine.

Another option is to ask a lick-her store how they would ship it.

I've had a few bottles sent to me in this manner and they arrive safe and sound.

Bruce I hope you have my address correctly written on the outside of that box!

I've sent him a shipping box so he is taken care of.

We've seen you drink....one shot and you got a lampshade on your head.

LOL, but you didn't state that the one shot is the whole bottle.

With the inserts? What you have to watch is sometimes the bottle neck doesn't fit the cutout so I usually just use styrofoam with the rectangular cutouts and fill in the gaps.

I did find these online and may eventually make the purchase. Thanks to Ray for the generous offer.
