Our area got hit by a tornado lastnight.

Last night was rather rough in that we had a pretty terrible storm that not only started dropping quarter sized hail, but swirled off a tornado sometime around 10 p.m. as well. After things quieted down a bit, we drove around to see what had gotten hit and there were trees down everywhere. Power lines got ripped up all over and we didn't get our power back until 11 this morning. Couple of houses got pretty badly beaten, one even had the roof ripped off. Apparently some sort of debris got dropped onto some railroad tracks in town and has derailed a train there. Luckily no one was injured though, so that's good.

We had a very similar event about 2 years ago. Supposedly it was not a tornado, although my son was underneath it when it hit and he swears he saw the swirling clouds overhead.

The National Weather Service never officially confirmed a tornado, but said it was likely a tornado that never fully developed or touched down. The incredible amount of damage done leads me to suspect it sure was something pretty significant. It actually twisted off the top of one of my 20+ foot evergreen trees and laid it on top of my house (30+ feet away). A neighbor down the street had the tree in front of his house dropped perfectly centered over his car. All of the streets within about 6 blocks of my house were choked with downed trees and limbs.

Thankfully - no one was injured, despite it happening in the middle of the afternoon and passed directly over the park district while the kids day camp was in session.

Hopefully you don't have a huge mess to clean up like I did. I'd love to lend you my chain saw, if you need it... :thumbs:

Coming from Oklahoma tornados are at least a once a year occurance. Glad no one was hurt. Best of luck with your town rebuilding. Happy Easter.

aye merlin..same storm went through middle tennessee and central kentucky yesterday afternoon, I think a couple of deaths were associated with it, and Murfreesboror, TN got hit pretty bad...that time of year unfortunately! :angry:

Pretty familiar with the twisters here, seen and cleaned up after more than I care to mention. Nature is one awesome force.

Thanks, turns out we were luckier than we originally figured. A tornado touched down not but 2 minutes away at another subdivision and we didn't even know it until we read about it today. Another one came through on the other side of the city and one more came down about 10 minutes to the north of us. Apparently a couple of houses got relocated as well.

Wind can be scary. Smelly, too.

I saw the aftermath of a twister that went by my sister's house and carved a 60 yard wide swath through a woods about 200 yards away. She and her husband crawled under the dining room table and she told me they couldn't hear each other yell the noise was so loud. And she assured me they were yelling quite vociferously!
