Welcome dieselman! Sorry I can't answer your question on shipping into Canada from the US. Just thought I would suggest that you check out the "Introduce Yourself" thread and maybe post an introduction to the community. Fine folks here at CP! I love this place.

Enjoy your stay.

I believe the provincial and federal tax combined is around 200%. I have heard of some outrageous duty bills. Basically order at your own risk.

Hi

Thanks for the response. I know its up to 5 dollars a stick (max) for alberta. There is a percentage, but I don't recall what it is right now. I would guess that I would have to try a sample pack and see what I get hit with. Its sure frustrating.

Hi guys:

The taxes and duties in Canada while excessive do vary a bit province to province. An example of the excess: I recently won a cigar auction. The final value of the auction was $50. My total cost would have been $150 with taxes and shipping all in. However I was able to eliminate the tax portion and my total cost was cost plus $10 shipping. Big difference eh?

I have bought cigars online at one quarter the retail price here in Ontario. And now that our dollar is at par with the US dollar, buying high end cigars is a lot more attractive.

It is possible to have cigars shipped to Canada without incurring the heavy taxes. It isn't hard, and it isn't illegal.

Hey TonyG,

I've been looking at this (living in Ajax), and have yet to order anything.
Could you PM me some info ?

Thanks!

Yes, there is also a federal tax rate which I believe has no cap. As well, if you don't improperly import them, ie: pay the tax before they hit the border, you can be assessed with penalties. I have seen some locals get hit with $500/box duty charges.
