Like a good wine I do enjoy a good cigar, and from the information that I have gathered it sounds as if these are very good cigars. So, for the person getting ready to embark on an Opus X voyage where would you recommend that one begin?

Of course, the recommendation should be of a somewhat available smoke. It doesn't have to be easy to obtain, half the fun is in the hunt after all ;) , but should at least be in current production or recent production.

As a point of reference, some of my favorite smokes have been AF Anejo #50, Montecristo #3, RyJ Reserva Lonsdales, Trinidad Fundadores and Acid Kuba Kuba.

Thanks folks!

Get one of these and then post a review.

NorCal, don't run out and buy one yet, you still have the newbie thing going and now I know what you want to try.

Start with the Super Belicoso. That's the one I started with. It's a nice smoke that shouldn't put you on your butt to hard :)

Any of the smaller RG cigars will do  #5, #4, Petite Lancero, etc.

My first opus was the XxX. I wiped my little newbie @$$. Go any of them man. The XxX may be small, but it's still one of my fav's.

My first was the Perfection X and I was a little disappointed. I actually enjoyed my AF Anejo #50 much more. Don't get me wrong, the Opus was great but not quite what I expected. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them. Then again, I have only tried the one. :D

That why you try to try each cigar twice. First one might be a fluke.

If I were you I would trade with a FOG here on the board for one so that you get one that is well aged.

Does anyone know where I might find an OpusX size and price chart? I found the size chart on the AF website but can't seem to locate any prices.

Definitely try ANY CIGAR a number of times. I've been traded Opus that must have had a very rough life... barely tasted anything like what an Opus should taste like.

That said, cigars are about personal taste -- what some people love, you may not be wild about. Just do yourself a favor and sample a few of any cigar, from a known-good source.

This sounds like good advice that I have read a number of times now. I'm slowly building my OpusX collection to include at least 2 of each size so I can sample each size more than once. From that, I can find my favorite and begin some serious hunting.

Thanks for the size and cost chart MMM

Just be a little leery of buying Opus from places like Yahoo, or from trades with people who may not be exactly taking good care of their cigars, or from online merchants that you aren't 100% sure of their credibility.

The cigars are pricey enough that it's silly to pay for them if they've been mistreated, or not stored well. Ask Marito about the Opus he bought -- they tasted like dog**** -- the vendor he got them from should be ashamed.

get a power ranger that was the first opus I tried and I love it. Waiting for my smoke shop to get some in so that I can pick up a few or maybe even a box.

Very interesting ...... in searching out some of the Fuente Fuente's I'm finding prices all over the board. I was just quoted $17.50 for the FF's and $19 for the Robusto. Yikes!, good thing I have this handy dandy price list ......ummmm ..... but can you actually locate them at these prices?

NorCal,

The shop I go to happens to have about 8 boxes that they got today! Close to the list price I might add. I think I paid 14.35 for the #2 and $15.50 for the Double Corona. PM me if you think you want some.
