I'm gonna be making a few changes in life in the next few months and wanting to pick up some additional hobbies to pass the time. I drink the hell outta some cold brews from Starbucks and was gonna venture into home brewed cold brews, but wanted ya'lls input on if ya'll have a setup.

Obviously not looking for anything terribly expensive, but if you have a good cold brew with decent strength to it that you like sitting overnight for the mornings and how you achieve it.

Was gonna ask on here before getting a setup and ordering some coffee from a few of my fave online spots that I order my 'during the day' brew from.

I have been doing nitro home brew cold coffee for a few years. Total cost for me is around $2 for a 20oz mug.

I buy my grounds from https://stonestreetcoffee.com you can order the coffee ground for cold brew (extra coarse). I typically do 3lbs of coffee to 5 gallons of water and let it steep for about 36 hours, then transfer to a home brew keg and tap with nitro.

All you need to do the cold brew is a 6 gallon home brew bucket, mine has a spout to make it easier to drain into the keg. You will also need to get 5 gallon paint strainer bags, put the grounds into the strainer bag (basically a big tea bag), then add the water to the bucket.

I will tell you that the home brew stuff seems to be a LOT more potent than the Starbucks stuff.

Bradley! I use this guy (linky):

County Line Kitchen Glass Cold Brew Coffee Maker with Lid

I use a 1:8 Ratio, ounces of coffee to fluid ounces of water to make a concentrate, which is 1 cup of water per ounce. Standard for the Mason Jar is 6 ounces of coffee. This is the universal rule of thumb.

This is the best way I’ve found though: grounds in the filter, which should be about an inch from the top. Fill the jar directly with water about 3 to 4 cups, then insert the filled filter. Pour the remainder of cold water over the top of the grounds. You can use more water—typically the rig will take about 7 to 8, and it doesn’t over-extract.

Steep for ~24 hours in the fridge, filter through a funnel & paper coffee filter into the final pitcher. You can either dilute it going into a bigger pitcher or refrigerate the concentrate and dilute with each cup you pour.

As for coffee to use? I'm still on a quest for that.

I am going to watch this because I love a good ice brew but have no clue how to do it at home!:)

On another note, I have heard that cocaine is an awesome pick-me-up and if you do enough of it you will make all kinds of quality friends! And it's cheap!

In all seriousness Brad, I hope these changes are a good thing for you!
