I was at my B&M and we all got into an interesting discussion. What are the oldest, still running shops in the US. Found out that Demuths in Lancaster PA is the oldest with others like Iwan Ries in chicago, peretti's in boston being up there but couldn't find any real list. I thought about putting one together so guys and gals, who's the oldest shop in your area? G1

When I was in Quantico, I would hit Draper's up in D.C. on occassion. It's been around at least 100+ years.

I take it that's the kind of longevity you're interested in....though in some areas that is kind of hard. When I lived back in NorCal, I think Mission Pipe shop was the "oldest" in the area, but only had been around a little over a decade (at the time).

Edited to add -

I would also want to include Nat Sherman's. Their place on 5th in NYC has only been there roughly 30 years or so (I think), but as a tobacconist, they have been around something along the lines of 70. Don't know if that really fits the mold here though...but I do love that place (and many of their smokes).

Iwan Reis founded in 1857 (not in the same location)
Jack Schwartz importers 1921

Demuth's of Lancaster in PA was established in 1770 so that is the oldest in the USA.

Hain's claims to be the 8th oldest.

Hain's Pipe Shop
225 South George St
York, PA. 17403

oops forgot Diana Silvius place
UP DOWN TOBACCO founded in 1963 as an art gallery than 2 years later became a full fledged tobacco house

The store I work at, Maison Edwards, has been around since 1963 in the same location. I think it might be the oldest in the Detroit area.
