Ok, I'm ready for this step...

But you can get set up with a coolidor for $50 and then spend another $50 on cigars. From personal experience, the size of your humi will not control your spending, at least not for very long. I went your route and with in 9 months had a coolidor and two boxes of my favorite sticks. I'd recommend the coolidor, beads and in your case, some ISOM's. Besides, the coolidor is good camouflage, it will blend right into the other junk you have in the closet.
Thanks for advice, but humi is already on its way :whistling:

And one more think about coolidor.
Its even to big thing for our small flat. Last time we had problem with finding place for emty shoes box! :0

PS- do you both have joint life insurance? if not, then there really is no point in her killing you until after your wed and she can then collect. Didn't mean to keep you up and night, just looking at it from a legal perspective.
nice legal, profitable and reasonable perspective ;)

And, in Poland, the wife is only entitled to a quarter of the husband's worth :).
No, I dont think so :)
Its like everywhere - fifty fifty :)

But recently young marriages are signing some kind of "notarial act" which says "what is mine now, will be mine even after divorce"

No room for a coolidor because of the shoe boxes eh? When she threatens bodily harm because of your new hobby point out all those expensive shoes.

[/quote] good idea, I'll remember to use it ;)

Yeah! I got it! thanks again Mark :)
It's soooo big! ;) (guys, dont start with your coolidors :p )
Yeah! 3 weeks of waiting and I get it!
Me be soooo happy! :D

ps. 1 question concerning Puck.
Should I use it with this sponge inside, or just remove it?

Use it with the sponge. If it is the interior sponge you are talkin about!

Yes, use the sponge. Follow the provided directions and you should be good.

Wet the sponge with distilled water, place it back on the beads. Put the top back on and voila! You are set.

The sponge is a no brainer way of wetting your beads and it keeps them from falling out.

Pls tell me if everything is ok:

I get my humi 11 days ago.
At first I put a bowl with distilled water inside, after 2 days 2 higrometer were at 68%-70% Rh
I removed bowl and put cigars in the morning.
After work i've checked it and had 63%
Next morning it was 59%-60% so I put a bowl in the bottom.
After work it was about 65% so i took it out.
In the morning it was again 59%-60% so I put a bowl again.
After 6-7 days of this combination I've got usualkly 60% and after half day with a bowl about 62%.
Now I'm going to change a place for humi and check if it will work.

I dont know why I cant get stable 65%Rh.
Am i doing anything wrong? :(

It really needs to be at least half full to hold a stable RH. You also may not have the most perfect seal in the world, but it doesn't sound like it's defective.

I'd recommend taking the sticks out and putting the in a big sealed plastic bag with the puck and putting the bowl of water back in the humidor for another 3 days.

Also, just in general knowing a bit of Polish winter, you're not going to have the easiest of times keeping the humidity up in the winter because they tend to be rather dry.

Um... hope its not defective. I can feel it push the air outside when I close it... but... maybe some micro-holes in sealing ???

Yep, I think it might be a reason. Radiators are very hot, and air in a room is dry as hell. I'll put it as far from radiator as I can tonight.

I got my humidor from cigarmony a while ago, and I left a small container of distilled water in the box after wiping down the cedar with a sponge and setting up the beads and caliber III. (Thank you Mark, and you're welcome :) ) At first, the RH according to the caliber III was jumping all over the place, but it finally settled down after my cigars came in to a nice 65%, been stable ever since.

the temperature issue, I handled that by buying two blue ice packs from the 99 cent store. Normally its around 70%, but I wanna avoid mold and bugs, so I'm gonna put the ice packs wrapped in a towell in there to lower it down. Haven't done it yet (just got the packs today, and freezing them over night), but when I do, ill post here how thats going. Others have found success with this method, and I hope i will as well.

I'm not going to worry about the RH that much as long as it doesnt go below 55% or above 75%. But I like to look into the humidor every morning just to make sure that it isn't under/over humidified and its not too warm in there.

It's not done seasoning yet. I have no experience with Puck but I imagine it will work fine after it's seasoned. Maybe wipe it down again making sure to include the seal, too.

Yep, there's nothing better then a morninig look on cigars :D
And today, after puting is to the clothes closet I had 61% :)
Looks like its getting better.

Yep, It looks like You wrote. Maybe 12 days in dry air room with 12h with bowl inside and 12h without is not enough to season it.

I wanted to avoid wiping it inside with a sponge because I read it's not good to do it, but I will wipe seal like You wrote, and let know if it works ;)

The problem is, Michel, that the humidor's Spanish Cedar will SUCK the moisture right out of your cigars if it's not seasoned and the usual(patient method) is to leave a bowl of water in it for a week or two or until the RH holds steady around the high 70% area. So you're pushing it. But if you smoke them fast hopefully you'll be OK. ;)

You'll find patience comes in handy with cigars but we are all human! :D
Just a bunch of over-educated fleas on the ass of life ???

Wow, look out world! :D Good luck with that will-power thing.

Ok, 22h is almost like 24h, right?

So, In my plastic bin I had 67% when I walked in, and now, after 1 hour I have 65% like in the morning. Looks like I made some air circulation.. uuuu!

And in a humi I have 76%! Wow thats a lot!
I'll keep it like that next 48h and then put my sticks back to their house.

:)

Well said Vortex. Inadequate humidification is probably the biggest mistake made by newcomers to the joys of cigar smoking. I find that seasoning can take 1 week to several weeks depending upon the size of the humidor.

Increasing the number of containers of water inside will speed up the process. More containers means more surface area for the water mloecules to mix with the air molecules. The water molecules will then be absorbed into the spanish cedar more rapidly because more water molecules will be freely floating in the air.

The containers can be filled with tap water. It does not have to be distilled. In the evaporation process only water molecules will escape the container. Minerals and other "contaminants" will remain in thecontainer.

However, you should use distilled water for your humidifying elements unless it specifically states that you can use tap water.

I read this some where that a way to get some extra humidity into your humidor is to leave the box open in the bathroom, take a hot shower with all the steam and what not, then close the humidor lid, hopefully trapping some of that steam and moisture vapor.

Of course the water from your tap is not distilled, so I'm not sure how great it is, but hell, its just steam, isn't that what distilled water is? I haven't tried it myself, so I can't accurately account how well this method works.
