Pretty soon you will have to hide in your closet to enjoy a smoke. Seems like more and more we have others deciding whats good for us. I think I have the right to decide how to live my life. article

Will smoking bars that people go into knowingly be on the list?
My wife said that England has decided to become a smoke free country according to a report she saw on BBC the other day.

This is the same organization that did a detailed study on second-hand smoke a couple of years ago and after they saw the results they decided not to release it because the study showed there was little or no evidence to show that second-hand smoke is a hazard.

This is truly sad! A biased media trying to scare us again.

I'll bet obesity leads to more deaths than smoking?

I guess we will simply have to start protesting, marching, carrying signs, and otherwise making idiots of ourselves.

And, I suppose you also think that forming a thesis, then arranging the facts to support it are wrong? :whistling:

Nah, that never happens.

Not only relegated to the forum of "theses" either...happens all the time w/ over-zealous judges in our courts of law...outcome-based jurisprudence at its best.

"WHO said in 2005 that it had stopped hiring smokers, as part of what it termed its "public lead" in the fight against tobacco"

Because we all know that non-smokers are smarter then smokers... It's sad that we have come to this.

Again? The media dictate our thinking, actually no, they control our thinking! Ever see the movie "Wag The Dog" ?... I rest my case.
Time we woke up and took back our power :whistling:

May 31st is World No Tobacco Day! Let's all celebrate with a fine cigar tomorrow.

I would bet my salary that obesity leads to more deaths than 'pipe and cigar' smoking. The world's war against cigarettes cannot be stopped, but if we could separate pipes and cigars from that tobacco umbrella (or cigarettes), that would be a giant first step.

Humans are so f'n ignorant. I can count on my hands how many people in the flesh I know that just 'get it.' If it doesn't harm you, stop worrying about it and move along. GFY.

This sh.t is depressing, thanks a lot John! :D

Here's a morbid, but serious, question. Let's say that smoking really is as bad for everyone as they say it is. Is that such a bad thing? After all, they are also looking for ways to slow/lower the world's population. If we keep trying to keep everyone alive until they're 100, the financial and medical impact to the world may be catastrophic.

The entire world is in a very bad state of affairs right now. Taking away simple pleasures is the wrong thing to do. I just don't understand all the tax dollars that goes towards anti-smoking campaigns. Maybe we should ban all of those extreme sports that are so dangerous? How about we ban McDonald's? There is a small group of anti-smokers who have become very powerful. Why is it I know so many cigarette smokers who are afraid to light up at a party or social event? I always see them running away from the party and smoking alone down the street. Smokers have become rather docile. We need to be more outspoken and in people's faces just like the tobacco nazi's.

I don't know where they get these figures used for all this second hand smoke crap, when the only long term study ever done shows the risk to be neglible at best link
The best idea I've heard recently is a 911 campaign, The gist of it is, we all flood our local 911 call centers with reports of people smoking and breaking the law, where there are bans in effect. Clogging up the 911 system and forcing them to remove the ban. It is the first legitimate way I've heard of that might stop this crap.
