So the way I'm seeing it, you, Bill, and I need to get together for some cigars and jamming.
 
I'm not too technical, but do put a good bit of effort into music playback, system set-up, etc.
I'm still capable of a nerdgasm, here and there.
 
Cool dive picture. I did a bit of diving while in Grad School and my first post doc. It was all work related so I spent most of the dive looking at the bottom of the ocean trying to find a specific sponge or tunicate. It was fun and got me to Papua New Guinea, Alaska and the Florida Keys. I'm really into beer (drinking, brewing, chasing rare things, and the science) but I seldom have time for these things. I have three boys (12-2). Between work and them, there is little time for anything else. The things I do make time for most weeks, is Boy Scouts ( I'm a Bobwhite for those who are also critters) and my local chapter of the Hash House Harriers.
 
In the mid 70's i studied "fine arts and photography" at the U of FL and then went on to Cal. Maritime Academy to figure out a way to make a living and pursue my art.
After not making serious picture for almost 20 years; a little over a year a go i cleaned out my darkroom and dusted off the old Deardorff field camera and started shooting large format film (5x7") and making silver gelatin prints again. I do "analog chemical" photography; no digital for me

My wife and i also grow a lot of native rhododendron from seed and garden (food and flowers) on a moderate scale here on our Blue Ridge mountain farm.

I was President of the Photography club, in High School. There was a very popular girl who was a bit of a tease. Well, not really, she was a very brazen tease. So....one day one of my buddies got her do poses and such for a good hour....with my empty camera. I'll never forget that. Last I heard she was doing porn.

As I've gotten older, my kids passions have become mine :) I'm a baseball coach in the Spring/Summer/Fall, I'm a basketball coach in the winter and a dance dad throughout the whole year. Between baseball/basketball tournaments and dance competitions, we're either in town busy all weekend or out of town doing something. It's crazy how busy we can be, but I don't think I'd change it. Right there with you. The boy plays baseball 10 months a year, and basketball the other 2. The girl does gymnastics, softball, and soccer. I'm at something with them at least 6 days a week. Sometimes more than 1 practice or event per day. It's tiring, and I have no time for myself, but I wouldn't change it for anything.
 
Good stuff, guys and gal. I'm very impressed. In case my avatar didn't give it away I'm a huge hockey fan. I've played goal for about the past 15 years. Nothing competitive, just in pickup games. Of all the sports I've tried, nothing compares to getting on the ice. Unfortunately my health has kept me away for a significant amount of time the past year and a half. I'm healing up though and have lost a ton of weight so I'm really hoping to get back out to the rink in the next couple weeks. Fingers crossed.

I do have a bit of an artistic streak, be it writing, photography, etc. I've been considering picking up a beginner painting set and seeing what happens. I haven't picked up a brush since high school. As usual, translating what I see in my mind to the page, or easel, is the bane of my existence. That's usually when I get frustrated and give up. Maybe I'll stick with it this time.

If you get serious, the best book to get, if you like books, is "Drawing on the right side of the brain" by Betty Edwards. That will cure that frustration within a week.

ETA: and never, ever, think that you should be able to automatically draw something from your mind if you've never drawn something similar before. You copy/draw a hand a few times, you'll be able to do it from memory. Goes for anything.

For me, the process is much more important than the product. The concentrated effort is good for my mind.:)
