What is the difference between cigars that are full bodied vs those that are just plain strong from the nicotine? I've noticed that I can't smoke certain cigars because they make me sick to my stomach. I'll name a few that had me turn green. I'm sure for the majority of people here aren't affected by high nicotine content, they probably just tickle your tongues. Here they are: Brown label Tat's, 601's, Joya de Nicaragua Antano, Liga Privada #9, the smaller Padron's 1926 and also the new Illusione cigars, It brought me down......

I tend to think of "full bodied" smokes as "full flavored" smokes. They're the cigars with flavor bursting out all over the place. A lot of them are strong, but not all. I don't find the DPG blue or black labels all that strong nicotine-wise, nor do Padron cigars give me any nicotine fits. These smokes are sure full of flavor, though.

There are many other examples out there. Strength and flavor do many times go hand in hand, but not always.

I think this "full bodied" term is one that is used in different ways by many manufacturers and vendors. It's all really subjective and I'm not sure if there is really one definition. I've found "full bodied" and "strong nicotine" used interchangeably many times. To me, they don't mean the same thing.

The way a fog explained it to me,

Full-Strength = nicotine(i.e. Opus X Perf X, RyJ Cazadore)
Full-Body = smoke texture\feel(i.e. LA Cien Anos Beli, H.Upmann Mag 46)
Full-Flavor = flavor(i.e. 601 Habanos, PSP4)

(examples may have one, two, or all three attributes but are indicative of the type)

But I rarely pay much attention to popular usage. The meaning is usually clear.

I've tried those and I can't handle them. I wonder sometimes, will I ever be able to handle cigars like those mentioned above and as I think about it I don't think I will ever get use to the nicotine kick. Mind you I've been smoking for over eight years. Cigars that are full flavored that I do enjoy are La Aurora 100 anos, Punch Gran Puro, and the new San Cristobal just to name a few.

So the smokers use what I concisely stated and the industry lumps them all together to mean whatever they want at the time.

Sales and marketing are more concerned with the psychological aspects of getting smokers to buy their product. Smokers need to be able to refer to the various attributes to talk about cigars.

I prefer the smokers version. It's more precise and doesn't cause so much confusion.

I prefer the industry's usage. Nicotine is something that can be measured. Flavor, or mouthfeel, is purely subjective. One reviewer's 'dried apple' is another's 'earthy leather'. Same goes for the texture of the smoke. Just my .02.

umm no.. if i think its earthy leather, then you thinking its dried apple is just wrong.. ;)

when i hear full bodied, I think powerful. Now I'm not the incredible hulk or anything, but I love a powerful cigar. In my opinion the lower power cigars are also lower in flavor profile. That's not to say they aren't flavorful, just the strength and boldness of a flavor is much more intense with a powerful cigar.

Its one of these things that each person has to find on their own.

To me, a mild cigar is airy and light. The smoke more easy to inhale a bit, and much less harsh on the nose if you mouth the smoke and purge through the nose.

A true full bodied smoke is one were the second hand smoke alone is enough to make you drool. The power in the smoke tingles just by breathing in the meer presence of the smoke. There's thick clouds of dense smoke that leave the taste of the cigar on your lips for hours.

God i love full cigars.
