Newbie Training Cigar Pass-- For February 07-

Yeah, SJM... maybe you should just post a list in here of those who have not given you their info yet. And set a cut-off time for getting it to you. Since you seem to have everything pretty much in order, unnecessary delays at this point would be a drag. So maybe make sure everyone has their info to you by Monday?

Dear Gentlemen,

The initial load for the cigar pass has been posted. There will be 15 cigars, 3 each to increase the chances of getting something you want. For fun, a mystery cigar has been included. I will check on time restrictions some of you may have and by next week will get an idea when we will be able to let this bird fly.

Dear Pass Team,

I am waiting on good names and addresses for Poronico and Mdutch. If anyone wants out, now that the cigar list is posted in the first thread, please don't feel embarrassed. We are mostly doing this for fun and training purposes so we can get a pass under our belts. Thanks for all your help to make this fun and work!! Will try to post kick off time next week.

Stay safe out there.

SJM

Dear Newbie Cigar Pass Participants,

We know that puts have to be close to the value of takes, but with this pass considering the price range we are working in and that we have no ISOMs, something close will also be satisfactory. Don't worry about getting within 0.05 of the value. Just use reason and sense of fair play.

Also the question has been asked if you can take from the puts. For this run, MOST DEFINETLY!! Doing so will increase the variety as the pass runs for the people did not have pick of the litter by being the first. I am only waiting one more more name and address. Thanks for all your help!! :)

Dear Gentlemen,

With a little luck the pass will begin this week!! Everything is collected and ready to ship. I am sending out some cigars first to Cigar Pass Insurance first tomorrow and when they arrive I will mail the pass to NorcalCigarlover to begin the pass. Worst case scenario, it would go out Monday next week. The games will soon begin. Also, once the pass begins, I will move this to the Cigar Pass in Progress Forum. It is there where you need to check the progress and post DC numbers as it moves along. Thanks for all your help and cooperation in this. THis will be a great learning experience for all of us and a way to get a pass under our belts. HOOOAAHH!!

As far as maps go, we can use this one:

http://www.frappr.com/saxjazzmannewbpass

You can put your pin whever you are. You have to add an email addy, but I don't know if you need to use a real one or not for it. I don't think there's a way to have a line trace it across the country or anything, but we'll see everyone's pin and be able to follow along.

If anyone else has a better way, feel free. A football board I posted on used this site for its member's map, and I thought it might work for this.

what is Cigar Pass Insurance?

Exactly as is states. It's insurance available for CPers to cover the cost of sticks if something were to happen during shipping, etc. The host usually buys in with cigars, beads, etc. to be covered by CPI. I believe Emo was running the CPI show. Search under CPI and there is a whole thread on it. Cool idea.

Good news!! Emo has received the cigars and this pass will be covered by CPI!! I just received an email about a change of address and will have to update the list. If I can get it done tomorrow I will mail out the pass. If not, it should go out Monday. Stand by here for notification. Again, thanks to all for helping to make this a fun event!!

The games have begun!!!!!

First stop San Jose, CA to Norcalcigarlover!!!! :D

Norcal,

In the smaller tupperware there is a ziplock bag marked with your name. Please consider it a thank you for helping us newbies out. Also, feel free to put and take whatever you wish.

Thanks for getting it out... happy to be involved. Just thought with it on its way, should just remind everyone of this little bit you posted from the front page:

You can take up to three cigars and replace with equal value but no more than one from any bag.

Are we having puts/takes posted up here for you to OK, SJM?

Since this is a training cigar pass I think that we should play this one by the book so we all get the system down. That means the following:

1) Post when you receive the pass
2) Post puts and takes and wait for confirmation of approval. If no confirmation in 36 hours after posting puts and takes then assume that it is ok and get the box moving to the next location. NOTE: For puts and takes, and again because this is a practice run when you post your puts, put the MSRP on your cigars. This will be good practice in how to look them up.
3) Email next recipient to confirm mailing address and that he or she will be available to receive the box. Life happens and we just want to make sure the pass box is not sitting in the rain or snow on someone's stoop who has had an emergency. This is just an extra safety measure.
4) Once the box has been sent priority, post the DC (Delivery Confirmation) number on CP.
5) Follow the Pass and watch the fun continue!!!!!

Please keep posted to this site as things may change. NorCalCigarLover is our experienced member who is helping us out on this pass. He may post suggestions and recommendations and we may implement them to improve the pass.

Enjoy the weekend and the GAME!!!! :)

This sounds good SJM, I do like the idea of having the newbies stick to the book, and then some, on their first go around. Discussing P&T's can be a touchy subject with some members, some guys seem to get pushed out of shape when they're P&T's are questioned. Remember, it's happened to all of us and sometimes we just mess up or overlook something. If your going to question somebody's P&T's please do it in a constructive manner and don't accuse them of trying to take advantage from the get go. Likewise, if your P&T's are questioned please listen and make any necessary corrections without getting all butt heart, if a few participants are questioning your P&T's then there probably is a reason.

Here is the rule we are using in the iPass Jazz Pass concerning P&T's,

5. Put & Takes (P/T's) should be: a) value for value, b) rarity for rarity, c) NC for NC, d) Premium for Premium and e) ISOM for ISOM.

For each P/T combination an acceptable exchange value difference of $0.25 will be allowed only if the overall net P/T value exchange is zero.

To calculate the exchange value of a cigar please use the following vendors in the order given: International Cigars, Famous Smoke Shop, Holt's Cigar Company and JR Cigars. Use of the Cigar Pass reference charts is also acceptable in calculating the exchange value for some of the rarer premium cigars.

Hey SJM, did you add those rules to the first post in this pass?

So I'm assuming you go to CI, find the box, divide by number in the box, and that is the value? If not on CI go to the next one and so on and so on...

That or a site that has individual pricing, it only has to be relativly close in value.

edited for typo

Yup ..... also what Burnt Tongue said :D

One thing, I've never seen a pass with so few cigars in it. Does the host mind if I add five or so cigars? I usually start with at least 20 cigars, no need to worry about CI on these they're nothing very special :whistling:

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe each of us should add 2 or 3 cigars as it goes along!
