Newbie Training Cigar Pass-- For February 07-

"Post whoring" is part of the reason I don't participate as much. I'm following this thread to read about the status of the pass, and other cigar-oriented info. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying this kind of "game" isn't fun or shouldn't be on the board, but I AM saying, IT SHOULD NOT BE IN THIS THREAD!

I don't think the spirit of the contest is about whoring. Because SJM specified not posting just to post. But if you look at some of the other passes going on, a lot of those guys know each other well, since they've been around here for a while.

This group in the pass here, we represent the "freshman class" of CP so to say. We all started here around the same time, so not many people know much of anything about any of us. So, maybe take a post or two to tell us something about you that will let us know you better.

If everyone tells us something about themselves, you'll find some things you have in common, and it'll make the pass seem to on faster.

Perfect example - my contest let you guys know I'm a Mets fan. And that sparked an automatic "rivalry" between beaucredo and myself, being that he's a fan of a team with an AWFUL bullpen  And that, in turn, led to him dropping the hot potato bomb on my lap...

Our bullpen is a lot better than it was last year. With Soriano, Gonzalez, and Wickman the bullpen is good to go. Now look at your Mets' Rotation, Pedro, Glavine, and then no one! :)

This season is not approaching fast enough.

El Duque, John Maine, Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez... Don't let Duque's age fool you... no matter how god a hitter you are, when he throws that 55mph curve at you, you stand no chance.

Yes, that is the intent here. I figure us newbies could get to know each other, sort of like tomthirtysix said, a freshmen class. If you notice some of the old passes and threads, the FOGs who came in at the same time tend to hang out with each other, have private jokes together, join passes together. That is what the intent of the contest is.

A little about me, to help explain the children and such, (and don't give me crap over it), but I am an Army chaplain on active duty. I have served twice in Iraq and have strong feelings about friends and family. In fact, I firmy believe that there is not much more in life worth anything much beside that. One of the reasons I have joined this site is to extend that horizon of friends and I hope to meet most of you within the years. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and am a thorough 'Bum". (O.K. Baseball fans, what am I implying about that?..and it goes back to 1955)

That is my two cents about myself. By the way, I am a Yankees fan. I hope that I have not made any enemies with that info!! :whistling:

ed: I hope the chaplain part gets buried in this thread as people start to treat you funny when they find that out.

Go Phils! Where's the Nats and Marlins fans to round it off?

Wow... Nice little NL East showing in here...

And SJM, thank you for your service.

I'd be more likely to treat you funny about the 13 kids thing, not the chaplain thing, worried you might get me pregnant. :sign:

Oh no .... we won't treat you differently SJM ...... uh .... Sir ....... uh ..... reverand ........ ugh ....... chaplain sir .......

Oh damn, wait a muinute, am I post whoring again?

Hey, I have been eyeing your picture!! :whistling:

A bum huh? That would have made you a Dodger fan. I hated the Brooklyn Dodgers, I have always been a Yankee fan. I was born in Brooklyn too! I lived on long Island until I was 40 and my company moved to Albany. I live 20 miles north near Saratoga since 1989, yea that makes me 57. My Wife and I raised 5 children and we are empty nesters living in a 4 bedroom colonial and we have 4 grand kids. I am a retired computer systems administrator. To keep busy I started a home remodeling business with 1 of my sons. My hobby besides cigars is boating, I have a 2003 Maxim Cuddy Cabin I bought new. I like movies, handguns, sporting clays and golf. Now you all know everything about me.

NCCL, I have some interesting ties to California that have happened all by hapenstance. I have a close friend that teaches Journalism at San Jose State University. You have any friends in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication? I spent a year in Monterey years ago at the language school there learning to become a NATO translator and spent a week in San Diego a couple of years ago presenting a paper at the American Mathematical Convention in Quantum Logic. I have to say that California really is such a beautiful state. Back in 1973, after college, me and a friend spent a couple of months riding Highway One (the one that rides the coast) camping and living out of a Beetle. I fell in love with the state on that trip. Finally, my father graduated from medical school in LA in 1929 and remembers seeing Wyatt Earp.

ed: Where you born out there NCCL?

Yep, you got it. I was just a kid when the Dodgers left and I have hated them ever since. The great part about having grand kids is that you don't have to raise them, or change their diapers, but they are fun. Was it Bill Cosby who said that grand kids are a parents revenge back at their own kids? I think he was saying that when your kids have kids then they get a picture of all what you went through in raising them.

I own a couple of hand guns. I have a Colt 357 Magnum, Python and a Colt 45 Automatic Gov model. I don't get to shoot them to often but I enjoy them. If you really want to start a fight among handgun owners say that the 9mm is a putz weapon as compared to the 45 Auto and boy see the BS fly. For most of my college years I worked in home remodeling and construction. I was the guy that ran up the 2x4, nailed on the wire lathe, and did the scratch coat from 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm to set up for the mechanics to come in at 6:00 am to do the brown and finish coat. I don't think most people know what I am talking about unlless they are old timers in the business. Nobody does that stuff any more as it is too expensive. I have to tell you that at the end of the evening when I looked at my work that I really felt I accomplished something. It is a cool feeling you get when you are in the construction business. It probably is a cool thing to be working with your son.

I know I won't get mad when you live in Pittsburgh you are used to pain because you are a pirates fan..........on another note though the Penguins are doing well LETS GO PENS

Hey, how can I get mad? My wife grew up in Pittsburgh and when to school there!! She wacks me with that 'Terrible Towel' she keeps by the TV during the football season.

Okay, my bad. I'm still in the doghouse, but at least in my eyes, you've all redeemed yourselves by talking baseball instead of nothing... or those "other sports!" So, in the interest of full disclosure....

Yankees here, though I've lived in Dallas the past 31 years. I still love the Rangers, because the park is wonderful. (Though they're only dangerous before the All-star stretch!) My Dad brought me up as a faithfully closeted Pirates fan.

Get the feeling I may be the oldest in this pass though. May 1st I'm 54. Anybody else top that crap?

My kids are so grown up, my "baby" of the family just turned 21 in Vegas last week!

I top it by a couple but having your 'baby' in Vegas is a great excuse to visit the place. I always wanted to go to Vegas especially when they were hosting the Cigar Aficionado Great Smoke. Did you ever get a chance to catch it?
