Newbie Pass 101

I looked at the Stradavarius and saw original MSRP was something around $30, but after the release and slow sales the price was reduced at many vendors to $15-18. I wasn't sure how to handle it and after reading some commentary on the cigar, I wasn't sure that it fit the flavor profile of what I normally enjoy.

Keep up the good work on the pass guys! 2K6TBSS, you P/Ts look very neat and good to go. I wouldn't worry about the $1 overput being this late in the pass.

All I saw on the Strad was $25-28 in the coffin. I wasn't sure how the lack of coffin affected the price. Kind of like trading an AF "A" without the coffin. How does it affect the price/rarity/popularity?

I was going to take the Stradivarius but after reading up on it, I realized it was something of a turd both in terms of value and overall objective quality. Its also perhaps a bit of a mean joke by Jake! :D A bit of an albatross or what have you.

Depends- do you want to smoke the cigar or collect it?

My Opus A is resting neatly in his coffin, for now :)

You guys worry too much about prices.

I threw some zingers in there on purpose....and both have been avoided like the plague, lol. Honestly, I don't pay attention to others reviews, I have to try for myself. Personally....I like the cigar. Now it's not out of the ballpark amazing...but it's not like smoking paper either. Take a look at the cello. It's been aging for awhile...nice and gooey, yellow and sealed shut. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Send that bad boy back home.

Mo, I don't know about the others, but it isn't that we worry too much about prices. This is a PASS. We have a cigar in there that was thrown in by the pass creator as a distraction of sorts. We are just discussing our pass and the fact that none of us could nail down a true value on a single stick. Read a little more and pay attention to a few more passes and you will catch the drift.

I wasn't trying to get smart- I know what a pass is. I'm only new here. I've just never seen a pass where so much emphasis was placed on trading stick for stick values so exactly.

Mo, this is a "Cigar Pass" thread. Placing value on the trades maintains the integrity of the pass. All we are doing is "Put"ting an approximately equal value cigar in the pass to cover for the cigar we "Take". It's educational and the conversation develops friendships within the site. You are doing the right thing in reading it. Hopefully one day you will be a participant.

Another key point to make here is that this is a NEWBIE PASS to help us newbies learn the ropes of how things go. Jake runs a tight ship because he wants us to learn the correct way of doing things. Read the thread from the begining and you will understand and may learn alot!

While I agree that you should maintain the integrity of the pass, making sure you're always exactly on the line or slightly above it tends to drift the price of the sticks in the pass upwards, making it more difficult for later participants to swap appropriately. What I mean is that you guys seem to be very "exact" with the takes/puts. Just trade out sticks in the same class and it should balance out in the end.

I meant no disrespect- was just surprised by how big of an issue price was on this pass.

Again NEWBIE PASS!

Not the same a normal pass!

No disrespect was taken!

That's just the way this pass, and most others on this site, are set up. As others have said, add in the fact that this is a newbie pass and everyone participating is anxious and trying not to screw it up and I think this is what you get ... a bunch of guys "worrying too much about price".

I appreciate you clarifying that you weren't trying to be a smart ass because, as a participant of this pass and a guy that's been here at least a few years, it certainly seemed that way. However, the fact that you're only new here doesn't really mean squat in the grand scheme of things to the BOTL's here. We are a unique community and have our own sets of rules and ways we do things and the fact of the matter is we don't know you from Adam. I guess I'm just trying to offer a bit of advice that your reputation on other boards or in other communities won't get you very far here at CP and I've seen numerous guys go down in flames because they didn't understand that.

Don't worry- I get it. I was making an observation about one unique aspect of this board. Then I was clarifying that I know what a pass is, based on my experiences elsewhere. I would say that you guys seem too defensive, but I'm afraid you'd beat me up for that too. :p

I just wanted to let you know to be careful because I've seen many a noob go down many different ways and I thought you might be treading a bit close to the edge. I'm glad you took it well and your good in my book. The guys here are very defensive of this community because we've got a trust amongst each other that's not found too many places on the internet. And since the FOG's have been able to establish that kind of a community here they understand how difficult it was and how difficult it is to maintain. If anybody off the street were allowed into the circle without earning the trust of the community then bad things are bound to happen.

**edit for clarity**

This is an amazing place Mo. You won't get it initially but will certainly appreciate it later.

Depends- do you want to smoke the cigar or collect it? My Opus A is resting neatly in his coffin, for now :) You guys worry too much about prices.

I'm glad you felt the need to tell us you have an Opus A...in a coffin. Congratulations! I hear the coffin is what makes the cigar a real treat.

I'm not thrilled you felt the need to interject your opinion like you've already walked the walk. The prices are tight by the design of the pass and the guidance we were given. If you actually took the time to read the 31 pages before this maybe you wouldn't have just blurted that out here. Come here to read and learn. If you have something of value, we would love to hear it.

By the way, some of my best cigars are resting nicely and never had cello or coffins.

I was responding to joebunaga's comment regarding the AF A. I wasn't bragging or whatever- it's certainly not my most rare or best. And it's not going to stay in the coffin long-term.

I really like how some of you assume I didn't read all of the previous 31 pages. I've been following it for 2 months now. That's how I got that opinion. Why is my opinion of no value?

Your comment about how we've been handling prices assumes you either didn't understand what you read OR you did not read the whole pass.

I had no idea what you Opus A comment was for, other than "look at me".

Oh well, enough of this sidetalk and back to the pass.

Im sure these conversations can be saved for PMs since it appears to still be carrying on. Lets try not to hijack Jake's thread here with a bunch of nonsense please. Im sure we can all agree with that, so we can focus on whats important, the PASS and it's participants.
