New Metallica

Absolutely love the new album. XM 51 has been dedicated to playing Metallica for the past 3 weeks 24/7 and played the new album last night with the band talking about the songs. You can still catch it on XM.

I picked up the album on Friday and listened to it a few times this weekend:

While it's still a ways off from their earlier stuff, it's definitely a step big back in the right direction. Big heavy guitar work, good riffs, and monster solos. I see what you guys were talking about with the drums - they aren't nearly as bad as St. Anger but they are a bit overpowering, and the snare is a little hollow and sloppy. I found that when I was listening on a quality sound system (home stereo/bose headphones) where I could really control the mix, it sounded great. In my '98 pontiac car stereo with just bass/treble nobs, not so much, and the drums drown out the guitars.

I think any fans of the older pre-Black days will enjoy it - but definitely go out and buy it, as I can almost guarantee the best songs won't make it to the radio waves (the first single may be the worst song on the album IMHO).

I picked it up on Friday. I've been a fan since Ride The Lighting came out. I think it is their best work since ...And Justice For All.

While I used to be an avid Metallica fan, I have to say they have not made the 'comeback' for me. I am a musician, so maybe I'm too picky, but IMO, this is a bad time for them to put out a mediocre album with so many other metal bands to choose from. Overall, it smacks of too little, too late. Bland. Sorry guys. It's just how I feel.

Hmmm.. I'll have to give it a listen I spose.

I used to like them before 2 things happened..

1. Lars and the rest of them became pricks!
2. They get WAYYY too much airtime. I get sick of hearing them on the radio.
