New guy with new guy questions.

Well, I am going to the cigar shop now. Wish my luck I will let guys know what I have picked... maybe ill ever try to rate the cigar.

Ok, so I picked up a Padron 3000 box pressed and a CAO Mx2 Robusto. I can't believe how different they are in just smell. I can't wait to try them.

Those 3000's are an awesome smoke and the price is hard to beat. If you can put some of them down for a year or so, they really develop some incredible flavors over time.

I smoked the Mx2 it was amazing. I enjoyed every puff of that stick. Thanks for the idea I think I will do that.

I have another noob question... would smoking a cigar in a hot tub be a bad idea with all the steam that it produces?

I'd recommend keeping the cigar above the water if you want an even burn.

Leave the cello on if you are going to smoke in water.

Or, borrowing on Insight's idea, rather than trying to keep your arm out of the water, use a rubber with an extra large tip to hold the smoke. :whistling:

Thanks Green Monkey, I took something like that off a website and put it on Excel. I am obviously going to have to google some of the info on the cigar.

When I first started smoking, I made an Excel spreadsheet with all the cigars I had and my impressions, and I found it to be very helpful in narrowing down my choices.

I also second any Arturo Fuente Hemingway or Padrón. Great cigars with fabulous construction and an amazing depth of flavor to boot!

One piece of advice I heard a lot about a year back when I picked up my first cigar was to try the milder-medium cigars first and develop your palate. Smoking a fuller bodied cigar can knock you flat on your face if you're not used to it! It still happens to me on occasion.

Ok guys, just to give you a heads up. I smoked my cigar in the hot tub. What I did was grab one of those 5 gallon water things cut the "neck" off of it and flipped it upside down. I had my girlfriend sit on top of it and I was like a reverse aquarium. You have to try it.

That sounds kinky! I will have to try!

By the way, welcome to CP. You will learn alot here. Take your time and enjoy the new tastes. I like the idea of keeping a spreadsheet of what and by whom, it will help later after trying several cigars...I always say I am going to remember, but I dont. Try more Padrons, Tats, and even Rocky's stuff...they are solid. Don't jump into the HTF stuff right away! I never tried a Fuente until 4-5 months in...there were just so many of the brands that I liked before I wanted to start that obsession.

but still......a "reverse aquarium" hmmmm Have to think that one out. Have any pics? :sign:

Since it's the holidays, hit up your local B&M and pick up an Arturo Fuente Anejo or Between the Lines if they have any in stock. Treat yourself right!

modo22- It is just something you have to see and experience a picture would not do it justice.

ree ree robusto- I will add those to my list!

My local cigar shop has soo many cigars in the walk in humidor I got lost.... speaking of that is there a "standard" display set up or do I have to figure out if there is some sort of order in the humidor. About the only thing I noticed was the Padrons were all together.

Padrons are the shiznit! My personal favorite! The 1964 or 1926 will not disappoint! This would be my other recommendation if the others are not in stock. However, don't blame me when your palate enjoys these tasty smokes.

I still have the Padron 3000 I havent smoked it because I have to buy christmas presents and if I like it to much I would accidentally myself a box or 2 ???

Try the DPG Vegas Cubanas, Cuban Classics, 5 Vegas Gold, and Cabaiguan. Those are just a few suggestions that I really enjoy. Good luck on your search as it as a very slippery slope your going down.

I apologize inslight. I did a search and could not find them... maybe I am just searching wrong.

But, it is also really hard to talk to people about cigars when you don't know anything about cigars so all you have is questions...
