New Espresso Machine! :D

Good morning gents! yesterday I got a really cool espresso machine off of Craigslist for $40! I got some nice espresso beans that I'm going to grind up and use this bad boy.. im tempted to have a cigar with my espresso but its just too early for a smoke for me. Anywho, the machine is a Krups XP 4030. If any of yall are familiar with this machine tell me how you like it. I have read mixed reviews on it. The original price was about $200 so i don't think i'll be at a loss if it sucks! Well here goes some pictures, tell me what yall think.

Krups are decent. Learn to grind and tamp properly (40 lbs, use a bathroom scale, tamping on top of it to practice and get the feel) to get your 20-25 second extraction. When we had an Italian restaurant, we were taught to also consider the humidity, as it affects the grind, and thus the extraction. I.e., you will make small adjustments to the grind setting. There is no reason why you can't get perfectly good espresso from a less expensive machine. Just learn it's operating idiosyncracies.

Nice find on the espresso machine..!! We do the Fench Press thing around here....that's pretty addicting, too.... My investment was in a Baratza grinder, which makes wonderful, consistant fresh ground beans for the AM coffee.

Now, wait a minute here... :laugh: An espresso and a great small cigar is a wonderful pleasure in the AM. I try to start every weekend AM with a fresh French Press and a nice small cigar. Try it, you may like it...a lot....

I have a Krups Cafepresso and love it---regular coffee and enough of it for a go cup during the workweek; lattes on the weekends. It's a steam machine, rather than a pump (at the list price, I'm assuming yours is a pump, which is better and should do well for you) but I have yet to see a pump machine that makes a 4-shot pot, and my espresso drink of choice is a skinny quad venti hazelnut latte . . . I've been doing this awhile and it takes a LOT of caffeine to get me up and moving! :laugh:
