Hey all,

My name is Wyatt Myers, and I was hoping to get some input for a magazine article I'm working on about cigar/spirit pairings for a small "custom" magazine for the Paseo Herencia shopping mall in Aruba. Rod gave me approval to post my message here.

I'm just looking for members to let me know what some of their favorite cigar/liquor pairings are, and why they like them. If you can mention specific brands of cigars and liquor, that would be great.

Thanks in advance for your help, and I look forward to seeing your responses!

Wyatt,

This has actually been disscussed several times lately. You can get a head start on your writing by doing a SEARCH for " pairing " .

I look forward to reading the replies to your request. Good luck with your article.

Just want to confirm that I did in fact tell Wyatt he could gather some pairing information here. He will be sure to mention us in his article.

Hey, there's only one Wyatt on this board buddy.

I am of course kidding. Welcome to the board. I'm not much of a liquor drinker with my cigars....I love a nice ginger ale...other than that it's usually a Bud Select.

Most often, I drink Propel brand, berry flavor with just about any cigar I smoke. When, I'm feeling special, I'm partial to a Tawny port with most of the sun grown wrappers. I like a red or amber ale with just about anything maduro, especially the AF Work of Art Maduro.

i guess i'm a redneck at heart cause i always have a Miller High Life w/ my smokes....i don't know what it is but that is all i ever drink

One of most favorite pairings is the Dalmore Cigar Malt with a Fuente Double Chateau Fuente Sungrown wrapper.

When I go see my parents, no matter what it is I decide to bring along with me t smoke, it is always paired with Hennessy Privilege. My father's favorite drink with a cigar. So, when in Rome...

I've had many wonderful parings; good scotch, good bourbon, gin / tonic, even ice water all go well with a fine smoke depending on mood, etc.

I think one of the most memorable was a very nice Cabernet with an Anejo 49. The paring of a dark complex wine with a smooth, complex "dark" tasting cigar was absolutely wonderful.....

Many folks like to pair cigars with a good coffee, too. You'll find some of that on a search. While I'll drink the occasional scotch or beer with a cigar, the best pairing if I really want to concentrate on the cigar is a big glass of ice water. Might sound boring, but I always enjoy the cigar. :)

Microbrews are the way to go with a good cigar and the flavor and aroma of the cigar dictate which flavor beer I buy. Hefeweizen, Belgium white ales, IPA, stouts, porters, and bitters all add to the enjoyment of a fine cigar.

1. San Cristobal La Punta paired with a Cuban style cafe is probably one of my favorite pairings. Cuban style Cafe with a Montecristo #2 is also quite nice.

2. Opus X Fuente Fuente paired with a 2000 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port is outstanding. The spicy and peppery notes of the Opus X are easily controlled by the fruit and sweetness of this big, young Port. I think if it was an older Port you may lose all of the nuances of an older vintage so I chose a young vintage for this pairing. 2000 was an outstanding year for the Taylor Fladgate but many people don't like their Ports this young, pairing it with an Opus X really adds to its complexity and makes that young fruit work.

3. Anejo #77 (Shark) paired with a Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 year old Bourbon rounds out my top 3 cigar and beverage pairings. Pappy's charred oak sweetness with the Anejos deep, dark, and spicy flavors work very well together. Again, as in pairing number 2, I enjoy that sweet and spicy combination but this time adding the charred oak flavors with the maduro wrapper of the Anejo add another level and depth to this pairing.

Noce latte with a Graycliff Espresso, mighty tasty!
