My damn lighter will not work.

Well, I just went through all of the posts about lighter problems, and I can not figure out what is wrong with my Colibri. I have had it only for a year, and have tried all of Mark's (from Cigarmony) tips and also followed the instructions on bleeding/cleaning/troubleshooting. I am going to try to send it back to them. The butane I have been using is Promethius. Not sure if it's good, but I assume so since the B&M that sold me the lighter also sold me the butane. Any thoughts? Is Promethius butane low quality?
 
Most of the problems I've had with my Colibri has been from over-filling it.

When I follow the instructions and only push down for 4-5 secs two times it works fine. When I try to put more gas in it, it refuses to light.

I use Colibri gas.

I still plan on getting a better (read non-colibri) lighter ASAP. not having a gas view port on my current model is a pain.
 
I have heard of many Colibri lighters being returned due to overfilling, using bad, cheap gas, or the seals are shot.
 
I was having some issues with my Colibri...I couldn't get a flame worth a darn. For me, what worked was hitting it with some canned air at the jet and the nozzle after bleeding it. The flame's been working great for a week now. I too use Colibri gas, and I too am looking at getting a new lighter. Hopefully, this one will last until Christmas. Oh well, live and learn.
 
Get a decent lighter, check my sig tag below.
I fill it +- every 2 months. Drop it, kick it,
sit on it and it works like a dream every time.

I agree with Doc. We all have owned a Colibri...once. Then we get a quality lighter (which doesn't always mean expensive).

If it's still under warranty, send it back to get fixed. If not, ditch it. You will continue to have problems with it.

My biggest problem with my Colibri is that I expected it to actually work. The lighter in Infinity's tag and on Cigarmony.com will run you a bit over $40, but you'll never need another. Its partially transparent, so if you let it run out of gas, its your own fault.
 
I'm thinking of getting an XIKAR Element next.

If anyone who has or has used one could comment on it I'd be grateful.

Which part of my post did you not understand. Those lightes were
originally designed for in the field work and not for lighting cigars.
You can weld with this lighter :sign:

Oh I know how good they are Brian, until some dickweed stole mine I used to have one...

But I'm a fan of XIKAR products and with the 20 dollars I'll save maybe I can buy a Stanford's 90 :p

The great thing about buying a Colibri lighter, is in about 6 months you get to look over their new selection for a replacement. :whistling:

I bought a Z-Plus insert for my Zippo, have been using it for well over a year, and love it.

They're readily available online or a lot of B&M's are starting to carry them as well!

How long does the gas last Jack?
 
I bought a Colibri a few weeks ago, have only used it less than 10 times. And the thing barely works now. I bought the colibri brand butane refill hoping it was just out of fuel. When it does work I have to have the setting at the max otherwise it just fizzles out and the flame height varies from time to time.
 
I have yet to buy a Colibri. Guess I will save my time and get something better.

For now I am using a cheap lighter I got at the gas station or matches. No troubles so far.

It depends on what was for dinner!! ;)

If you mean the Z-Plus, I smoke way too many cigarettes, in addition to 2 - 3 cigars everyday, and it lasts pretty much all week.
