MRN is the DEVIL

Alex Groom was a friend of MRN, his work on this book is 2005/2006 to present date. He also runs Cuban Cigar Website which has a lot of information on past and present Cuban cigars. John

Thanks John, for the insite. I might just invest in one of these.

Brandon...My last conversation with Alex he said he will not be doing any more editions as MRN did. My guess is that to put this altogether is too time consuming and possibly overwhelming. I think they only printed 3000 copies. There were several versions, a blue book and a red book and one inside a cigar box. The red book is the latest version. There is also a signed version for a few dollars more. In the world of Cuban cigars I rank him as one of the top guys. John

Did MRN actually publish and distribute a seconds edition? The last I saw was it was delayed until possibly 2016 and then I never saw anything further ever about it. It was going to be 12ish books and only 2000 copies.

Groom did publish a second edition. It can be purchased right now. Here: https://www.kirbyallison.com/collections/accessories-books and I'm sure elsewhere too.

MRN had a 1st edition 2003 and 2nd 2005. Groom's blue book was the 1st edition and was only available to those who funded his project months or maybe even a year in advance. It was never on sale to the general public. The second edition (Red Book) covers an additional collection of cigars 2022-23-ish but is basically the same as the 1st edition. That is the book that is available through Helios and others. John

I am referring to the delayed and possibly cancelled 2014 edition. Below are photos of the prototype / trial print.

In your images the books have all white pages, there was never anything ever printed. If it did it would be considered a 3rd edition. Initially MRN wanted 5,000 Euros up front for anyone that wanted the books and as time went on I think that moved towards 10,000 Euros. Also, you could not buy it being the average schlamiel off the street. You had to be one of his buddies or some high ranking 6 Cavendish royalty. Alex Groom has confirmed most of this. John

There was a trail print, although if it was on actual paper or only an electronic rendering I do not recall. I saw the first chunk of 20 to 50 pages long ago as e-file.

Anyway, to my original question, it sounds like this the II Edition as it was originally called never made it past the significant delay that was announced ~10 years ago.

Alex Groom said there was nothing but white pages. Looked in Amazon and they have the MRN 2003 and 2005 books available, some want as much as $3000. John

These are small portion of the test pages previously shared online in 2014. According to what was shared he actually had already laid out the whole book back then, but when he got the trial print, MRN decided that he didn't like the layout and wanted to take another 1-2 years to completely redesign the books layout. As a result, he refunded everyone's hefty deposits, and said when he was ready again to release it they would be recontacted to see if they wanted to purchase at that time at the same original price.
