The rest of my 2009 cigar budget has evaporated:
Partagas 8-9-8 Varnished - ABU NOV 08. These were picked up by a friend in Cuba from an all-inclusive resort (Caya Coco or something like that), so they've had a rough ride (never seen the inside of a humidor, etc.). I tried one ROTT and it had fairly muted flavours, with some hints of vanilla. However, I wasn't expecting much this early. The wrappers were a bit more rustic than I expected, but this could be from the shocks of unprotected transport and un-humidified storage. I put a Boveda pack into the box, and the box into a coolerdor, and will forget about these for a few years.
Bolivar Short Bolivar RE Asia-Pacific - TEB OCT 08. After b*tching to my tobacconist about the Boli Simones smoking like sh*t right now (relatively), he said that these Short Boli's were smoking great right now, and suggested that I should try them. ROTT, the Short Boli did taste pretty good and was complex - but, unfortunately, it also smoked hot and had way too easy draw. My guess is this was because there was not a lot of tobacco in that particular cigar. I have pulled out another for smoking and a full review in April, and am witholding judgement on the Short Bolivar until then.
Finally, after much whining from customers, including myself, Por Larrañaga Petit Coronas are finally being officially imported into Canada. This EMA SEP 08 cab of 50 was from the first shipment brought in. I like these a lot  and they're going into rotation. A PL Panatela at breakfast, a PL Petit Corona at lunch, a PL Montecarlo before supper, and a Padron Magnum Maduro after supper, will make for a nice mild/medium-bodied non-super-premium cigar day, methinks.
