meet the Fuentes

Damnit! I live right down the road in Baltimore but I'm going to be out of town that weekend :(

Wow, if that were a state closer I'd probably buck up and make the drive. PA is just a touch too far for me.

Too bad. That would really be something neat.

You have to wonder why a family as generous as the Fuentes has to resort to tactics like suing a small cigar manufacturing company, United Tobacco, for producing a cigar, the 'Series X' cigar in a partnership with Oliva Cigar Company.

Fuentes issued a Cease and Desist order due to United Tobaccos' use of the letter X in its name when United Tobacco began selling their 'Series X cigar. Keep in mind that no infringement was found when the registration was filed with the Trademark and Patent office, and United Tobacco was granted sole use of the name Series X.

In short, the Fuentes Family forced United Tobacco to stop production of their cigar over the use of a letter of the alphabet.

I met Carlito once, spoke with him at length and smoked a cigar with him. He also gave me and the others that were present a cigar of limited production. He was very nice and I would go so far as to say generous.

But the facts speak for themselves.

The Opus X Series X is model of Opus cigars and they have every right to protect their brand. If you owned Opus you would do the same thing, and if you didn't you wouldn't be a smart business man. There are so many companies out their trying to cash in on anything Opus. If they didn't go after every single one of them then there would be a glut of other businesses trying the same crap.

Never met the guy, and so have no personal opinion as to whether I like him or not. Not sure meeting him for 5 seconds will be able to sway me one way or the other. Fact is, I love his cigars, and hope to be able to get a pic and a couple of autographs from them both.

What are the chances of that? Anyone ever been to one of these things? I am going to be in the city that day and will be there before 2PM. Should I expect a mob scene? Is it rude to ask him for a pick and to autograph a few things? Is there any chance that I may actually get to talk to either of them (I don't even know what I'd ask/say!) Any input would be appreciated.

Nevermind! Just talked to a guy at Holt's and the Friday event is cancelled! DAMN IT! Said they would reschedule it but not sure when. Oh well, still gonna be their either way.

He is very open to taking photographs with you (as long as you have an opus x in hand=) and signing autographs. Really a gentleman, imho.
