Thought I would share how I spent the week-end.
I am a Cub Scout Bear den leader and Cub Master of my pack. We only have 3 bears in our den, but they can make an exceptional amount of noise as they have screeching contests with each other. However, this weekend we took them camping in a place that made their noise seem quiet. We spent this past week-end camping on the infield at Daytona International Speedway. The Grand Am cars were running from 9AM to 8PM. The boys had a blast as they got to do a tour of the garages, watch race cars all day and play with their friends. Here are a few pics of the trips.

Did the track cut you slack on the price because you were scouts?

Sounds like a good time for you and the Scouts. What a great choice for an outing.

I am a former Cub Scout, Cub Scout Den leader and Pack leader. Enjoyed it all. Especially because I was able to spend

time with my son.

Sounds like a great weekend. A great way to bond with the kids too.

Sounds awesome, my son is a little young for that yet but I think he would enjoy the cub scouts.

Glad you had a cool time James, I've heard nothing but good things about the Scouts. Forgive my ignorance, but what is a bear? ???

Bears are third graders.

We paid $35 for both father and son and had 2 tours and 2 nights camping. I don't know what it normally would cost.

Great job! All of my kids were scouts. Do you guys do Pinewood Derby? It was one of my favorites!

We are doing pinewood derby next month. Yesterday we had a cardboard box derby that was a lot of fun. All the boys made a car out of a box and try had to wear it as they raced. After on lap they had to make a pit stop where they took their shoes off and turned their socks inside out ( changing tires), drank a powerade (refueling) and wiped their faces (cleaning the windshield). It was something new to me, but one of the best activities we have had at pack meeting.

The term "Chinese Fire Drill" comes to mind, that had to have been fun to watch.

OMG the Stevenson Camaro.. I'm totally jealous. I love Grand-Am racing. Well racing in general as you know. Looks like a great time, you guys should come on down for the V8 supercar race :D One of my fondest memories of Cub Scouts was the Monster Truck show we went to. Great times!

Im going to the First Moto GP race in austin in april...going to be a blast. I do track days on motorcycles. I have been to Texas Worlds and MSRH out in Angleton, TX. Anyone else ever done it?

I didn't know they had anything like that in Angleton. I haven't lived there since '93 though and in high school I didn't do things like that.

The track had been there for along time. I would say since the 90s. The reason I say this is because it's pretty rough. They also have a sweet big boy go cart track there. Msrh was originally built for cars I think.

There is also a track in Galveston, never been to it but I believe it's by the dog track. It's smaller at around 1.3 miles long. They say its very tight and technical.

Yea. It's not a high school kids sport. I just started two seasons ago. I'm not a complete rookie as I just moved from novice to intermediate but I'm far from fast. Easily the craziest thing I have ever done though.

If you are willing to join as a scout leader or assistant, your boy can informally join the pack in most districts
