i am at a loss as far as torches go. I use cheapies now and want to get a better lighter. i had a few colibri's in the past (all ended up being desk ornaments due to failure), and see lots of brands out there (xikar, etc..). my question is, for around $60, can i get a good torch that will atually last, and perform?
any and all advice is appreciated , thanks in advance.

I have a Colibri Enterprise that I have subjected to a good deal of abuse. The punch is poor and I run out of gas fast. Other than that it is great.

You know what they say about opinions!!!!

I now am the proug owner of an Extend lighter.....I love it and everyone who tried it loves it...but as smokelaw1 would say - they ove it!!!

I also had a triple flame from one of the buy 2 fer $29...pretty nice, went through a lot of full and went south after a year.

The other one the I owned was a freebie from a Fla catalog...Iforget the guys name...:D

It turned out to be another colibri...and a buddy hijacked it last months!

I'd really, really like the Extend - very efficient and easier to use than you might think! (as it has the push bar/starter on the side!

I alos have a mid '80's Dupont...nice lighter, great sounding 'ping'...I'm scared I'm gonna scrath it!!! :D

I would stay away from the Xikar lighters. I have gone through 4 of them and they have all been junk. I use a Colibri Trident which I have had lots of luck with. If I were you I would try one of the Blazzer torches.....they are cheap and reliable :) .

Blazer MicroTorch. Going on 9-ish years with my original unit and still going strong.

That pinpoint flame is very useful for touchups.

Plus, I was able to remelt and repair the chipped spout of my Bodum coffee press with the intense flame. :D

Blazers work nicely...they are all about the utility, though.
I bought a prometheus (sp?) a few years ago from JimD's shop. I know people have had differing levels of luck with them, but mine has lit just about every cigar I have lit outside since then, and it hasn't died yet. I mostly use a soft flame lighter when inside, though.

And Gary...don't "scrath" that Dupont. At least I had cut and paste my typo off a vendor's site!

Typo's take thought...cut and paste - no so mooch! :sign:

<end hijack> out!

I have a tiger three torch, got it for 10 bucks at the Chicago herf auction. It has treated me great most of the time. In Vegas I couldn't get triple refined fuel and I ran into some problems with it. Got it home blew it out and put in some good fuel. Working perfectly again.

Hands down -> Blazer micro Torch

I agree with the Blazer. Love the mass amount of fluid it holds, Only thing I find fault so far is it won't work as well in the wind as compared with a Colibri.
