It there a cigar that has the same body and flavor as a Monti White, but a little cheaper?

My first response to this post is "Why?". And then I reminded myself that at one time, about 30yrs ago, I thought free world M.Cristos were the greatest cigar on the planet. You'll find that these cigars are not held in very high regard among experienced cigar smokers. They are over priced for what you get. I suggest any CT. shade D.R. filled cigar. There are a ton of them. Eventually as you spend more time here your taste will change and DR Montes, and anything like them will be a distant memory.

WHile I agree that your tastes will likely change, check out the JR Ultimates with the CT shade wrapper. You might find that they are to your liking. Also, you might want to try one of the samplers that places like CigarsInternationsal or Famous runs, where they bundle similar styled/prfiled cigars, often for very good prices. You would be able to try out a number of different smokes and start developing a profile of what it is you like about them.
Good luck!

Have you tried any 5 Vegas Gold? Not much taste IMO, but they are mild and rather inexpensive.

Thanks. I am so new to this. I have no idea what half of you were saying but I guess I will learn. A friend gave me several cigars at the while playing golf. Over the next few weeks I like the Monticristo Whites the best. The problem was when I went to the cigar shop they were 9 bucks. Wow. Thats why I want to find something close but within my budget.

It wasn't long ago when I got started in the hobby and I remember very well being overwhelmed with information, much of it as inscrutable acronyms. Here's a translation from FOG-speak into regular English. Hope it helps.

Doc is suggesting you look for a Dominican-blend cigar with a Connecticut wrapper. You can go into any decent cigar store and ask for a recommendation.

Smokelaw1 recommends the JR Ultimates brand from JR Cigars, the one with the Connecticut wrapper.

Brickhouse recommends 5 Vegas Gold. These seem to be easiest to find at Cigars International.

Smokyballs is suggesting that the NC (Non-Cuban) Por Larranaga with a Dominican binder is the exact same cigar as the Montecristo White at half the price. You can find these on-line at any number of places: Famous Smokes for one.

You guys actually brought up a very good point.

A lot of expensive smokes are not worth the price. So here is my question to those who have been around a while and know their stuff.

Which cigars over $5 are really worth the money and one should try?

I have tried:
Padron 1964 and 1926 and have an Opus X about to be sampled. I think most agree that they are def worth it, so can you please expand on that list.

Hell, I still have a couple Monte Whites as well as a few other Montes that I bought a long time ago still sitting in the bottom of my humi. They just don't do it for me anymore, in fact, the whites never did (way too mild for my liking). In addition, they are overpriced as hell.

Good luck with this question, as there are a TON of smokes over $5 worthy of smoking. I'd recommend checking out some of the cigar reviews to get your feet wet. However, just to add to your list a bit: Fuente Hemingways, Anejos, Don Carlos, Ashton VSG, Tatuajes, Don Pepin Garcia BL, and the list goes on and on and on. ;)

Ashton VSG,Heritage Puro Sol,and their Aged Maduro, if you like that sort of thing.

VSG, try all different Opus X sizes(each has a different taste, AF 858 Maduro, WOAM, Best Seller, Anejo(if you can get any)..and there are plenty more as well.

Put them in the mail then.
