Look what the girlfriend brought home today...

The girlfriend gives me a call at work today,
she took her daughter and niece to the park a few blocks from our house. They get there, and see a dog tied up to a fencepost. It has been pretty hot around here lately and this dog has no food or water and about a 3ft. of play in the cable!
She doesn't think much of it at the time and lets the kids run around and play for about 2hrs. They head home, and after another 2hrs. or so, decides to go back and check on the dog to see if it's still there. Yep, still there, after about 4hrs!!!
So she brings the dog home...

Now, I have been wanting a dog for a long long time, but I promised myself I wouldn't get one till I had enough room for a dog... So, I can't keep her! :(
I'm going to keep my eyes open for "lost dog" signs... but I highly doubt I'll see one!!!
A buddy of mine has been looking for a dog for a while now, so he took her home!!!

Oh well, just thought I'd share with you guys!!!

Looks like it's part PitBull, maybe he ate him. And you may need a bigger lead rope. Thank your girlfriend for looking out for the dog, it is still amazing what people will do to get rid of an unwanted pet.
 
Looks well taken care of overall. Somebody might look for it but after leaveing the poor animal out for 4 hours I don't know if I'd give it back.
 
If you find the owner put his a$$ on the short leash with no food and water and see what he does. He doesn't deserve to have the animal! My $0.02! :angry:
 
Its digsuting what a human would do to "mans best friend". Considering we hear more often than we should about a baby found in a dumpster, I shouldn't be offended when I hear about a dog left out... but it kills me to read that this too does occur!

I hope your friend can take good care of this precious dog. They need us so much to survive and to thrive in this world. Your girlfriend should be commended for doing what she did. That was awfully big of her to do so. :)

My better half and I just recently adopted a dog that was found in a similar situation. His previous owners left him in a crate at a Vets on the weekend; but unfortunately the was vet was closed and the dog almost ended up dying because of the heat. We adopted through a local rescue, so far he has been an awesome dog.

My wife came home about a year ago and told me that she had a friend that had to move for her job. So we where going to keep their Black Lab mix. We already had one smaller dog and now this 80 pounder running around the back yard. But I am a sucker for dogs so I couldn't say no. I think that I may have to quite my day job so that I can keep up with all the poop in the back yard!

I am sure that my wife would have done the same thing, good for your girlfriend in helping this dog get a decient home.

It amazes me what people are thinking when they're cruel to dogs... or pretty much any animals for that matter!!!

It's nice to see someone was looking out for that dog. It would have been really easy to walk by and assume it was being taken care of. It's hard to imagine a situation that jusified the owner's actions, they don't deserve a dog.

I have to wonder how old the dog is because it looks like a mix of a Pit Bull and a Mastif. If it does have some Mastif in it and is still young that is going to be a big dog.
 
PSTAN, that was my first thought, mastiff, pit mix. That would be a great dog, good energy, loyal, BIG...and beautiful! That was damn good of your lady to do. I love my dog so much, the thought of being so heartless as to leave her helpless really just boggles my mind.

And Peekay---damn, that's a good looking dog.

props for taking care of the dog :thumbs: , looks like a happy lil guy too. I think it gets the best of all of us when that kinda thing happens because the poor animals really are helpless.

Peekay, that is a great looking dog and a great thing to do, adopting one that is.

I want a Mastif but the kids are TOO scared of dogs, thanks to the wife's grandfather's dog playing rough last year with them. Heck, they are even frightened of puppys. So, I will stick to my cat for now.

Peekay, that is a great looking dog and a great thing to do, adopting one that is.

I want a Mastif but the kids are TOO scared of dogs, thanks to the wife's grandfather's dog playing rough last year with them. Heck, they are even frightened of puppys. So, I will stick to my cat for now.

Kids being scared of dogs always makes me sad. We live near a park that is the closest green space to some pretty inner-city areas, so there are often families from those areas around. Many of them have been trained to fear dogs, as the ones intheir neighborhoods are dangerous. We try, whenever we can , to talk to their folks, and if it's OK, tell them how it's OK to pet a dog IF you ask your parents and the dog's family first.
As for your kids...bring 'em to my place, and give them a few mintues with kacey....she has a way of putting kids pretty at ease. SHe's a small Aussie Shepard/beagle puppy...it's impossible not to love her...just ask Grateful1! I always wanted a big dog, and have had labs in my life, but we adopted kacey as a tiny puppy not knowing how big (or not) she'd be...I forget what I "wanted" and am just thrilled to have a good(ish) dog in my life again.

The kids are 3 so there is plenty of time to get them used to animals. :) Beside, I have no where to keep a dog at the moment.
 
Nice looking dog. Probably just a standard American Pitbull Terrier, they are breeding them larger these days.

Contrary to what many folks thinks, APBTs are great dogs and great with people and kids.

You have to watch them around other dogs and animals, they have been historically bred to be dog aggressive and sometimes just can't help themselves if provoked. But that's easily controlled by a responsible owner.

I used to do Rottweiler rescue for years and you would be amazed at some of the stories of the dogs we took in. We once took a litter of Rottie puppies that had been kept in a car trunk for a few weeks. When they became covered in their own urine and feces, their "owner" bathed them in lysol! Needless to say, we took them all and gave them new homes.
