There have been a few threads, but they all dies back around 2009, so I did not want to drag them from the depths of Necroland.

I have given up my street style tech-deck for longboards, and and have a project to build a board for my Daughter for Christmas.

I just returned back from my 5th deployment, and have to say that I have went 5/5 with having a board with me. Got some great looks and support as I pushed to and from work everyday….

Just checking to see if anyone out there still pushes around...

Tim, I'm curious when you and your daughter started to board?  My daughter (7) has been asking for a LB for a couple of months now.  Curious if its better to start on the LB or regular deck?  I have zero experience, so I defer to people who know whats up.

Thanks in advance.

She just started right before I deployed.

I think the main thing to take in to account is her balance and sense of adventure.
My daughter is a bit on the timid side and to be honest, has the balance of a pregnant yak, but she has a lot of determination.

If your daughter wants a longboard,  then that is where I would start her out, she will be more willing to learn and ride on what she likes.
Look for one between 36-40 inches and I would suggest something that has drop through truck mounting. It will put the board closer to the ground and will be more stable and a lot easier to push.

What ever she starts on will be what she gets comfortable with.

a few ideas are the Honey Rogue from Honey Skateboards, they are made here Colorado but are a little pricey or a non drop through would be the Loaded Poke, again Loaded are pretty $$$$.

Daddies Board Shop and Muirskate are some great places to start as well as The Longboard Store.

Any thing else I can help with just let me know

Holy crap!  Lots of info on those site.  Some amazing decks too.  Love the look of the Honey product!  Yikes on the cost for an intro effort.

Thanks, Tim!  Looks like I have some reading ahead of me.  Not to worry, I'll be back with PLENTY of dumb questions.....  :whistling:

....and look, here I am with one of those questions:

Does the size of the person riding help select the size deck?  Smaller person rides a smaller (length) deck?

Well a 4 foot girl would have a hard time wheeling around a 5 foot dancer....

My daughter is doing pretty good on my 41' drop through. It is all about set up.

If there is a local LB store take her in and let her ride around on the complete boards.

And yes, the price is why I don't own several Honey boards.

Check out Ehlers Longboards, might be better price range. I just ordered some knock off trucks for my daughters board

What about Never Summer?
Never Summer makes great chit man! they really do….

I am bummed that my "go-to" skate guys are no longer making Longboards. They are still going to make pocket cruisers and streets though, and they have some of the best bearing for the buck on the market.

I have an uncut blank waiting for me to shape as soon as the weather warms up, going to be a sorta DB Longboards "cosmonaut" knock of, double drop, with kicks...

I am really good friends with them. We grew up together. I got a board for my wife last spring. Couldn't bear the price. ;)
That is really cool!!!!

well, if it is going to be a christmas present, you are running out of time…lol

I used to board all the time.  My son just picked up a long board with drop thru's.  I am going to have to pick one of my own up over the winter.  I miss bombing the hills.

got the 180mm trucks in yesterday for the longboard project for me an my Daughter. Just need some new bushings and griptape and we will have every thing we need.

The more I look and research the NS Heist the more I like it. Might be a tax return present...
