Growing too fast.
My good friend David (Carps) sent me a nice little bomb, all some of my favorite smokes. There was however, one smoke he included I’ve never had the pleasure of sampling, a ’98 Le Hoyo De Maire! I’ve actually been looking to pick up some of these, but have been hesitant.
This is a small cigar with a medium brown wrapper that had noticeable oils and slightly coarse with small veins. The weight was really light and a bit spongy when squeezed. I punched the cap and immediately heard it crack, however I wet my lips and twirled the tip around and it held together perfectly. The draw was perfect, so I put fire to the little foot and went to smoking.
I was immediately impressed with my first draw. Not much spice in the smoke, but definitely a good medium bordering on full strength. It was oh so smooth, almost creamy to my palate. Delicious tastes of rich cocoa, nuts, wood, and what seemed to be floral notes were in the cool smoke. The best part was the incredible finish that was just delicious, very long and lasting. I could not get enough of this little powerhouse.
The burn was perfect with a black ash that held well considering how small it was. Unfortunately the smoke didn’t last long at all, however what little bit of time I did get to spend smoking this cigar was enjoyed immensely to the very end. I didn’t want to put even the little nub down. I am without a doubt no longer hesitant in picking up some of these.
