Recently a top notch BOTL (el presidente) was gracious enough to bomb me with a load of the rare La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Lancero’s. The bomb itself and it’s contents floored me, but I truly had no idea what I had until I smoked one this evening.
Prefight (prelight) – Absolutely gorgeous construction. A beautiful cellophaned 7 ½” x 39 lancero with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper and a pigtail. One of the more attractive ‘gars I’d seen in some time. Everything about it was inviting. Not one single blemish.
It had a soft feel to it, and it cut flawlessly. Prelight draw was perfect. Oh my goodness the taste! These should’ve been sent with a seatbelt, because the ride I was about to go on was outta control. Loaded with spice and hints of chocolate were very prominent. Surely it wasn’t going to be as good as it seemed.
Round 1 (1st quarter) – He came out swinging. Immediately from light the taste was overwhelming. This was one potent bad boy. I commented numerous times that this ‘gar had some of the best taste I’d ever had. I’d never had a vitola of any cigar quite like this and I definitely under estimated it. The burn was perfect and a plethora of smoke poured out. Flavor was complex but I was able to grab the chocolate out of it. The spice was still very strong.
Round 2 (2nd quarter) – Uh oh. Continues a perfect burn with great smoke. The spice backs off a bit, but still kickin. The chocolate hints have faded and are being replaced by a more familiar nuttiness. Can’t pick out what sort, but definite nutty hints. It’s about this time I’m claiming that this cigar probably has more taste than any I’ve smoked. I immediately stated that it is one of the best ‘gars I’ve had.
Round 3 (3rd quarter) – I’m getting my ass kicked. I was enjoying the spice and complexity so much that I forgot to watch out for the left hook. I went down and had to take a knee. I haven’t had a cigar hit me this hard before, this is one strong lancero. I’m fighting a losing battle and it’s apparent I may not finish this fight.
Round 4 (last quarter) – A haymaker, I’m down, I attempt to stand but am obviously wavering. The ref comes over and checks the eyes and stops the fight. I’m am embarrassed to say that I simply can’t finish it. I’m stubbling around. This fight is over.
Wow, what a cigar. A rarity I know, but if you can get your hands on one or more, do it. Great flavor and loads of power. I simply under estimated it. Not having dinner didn’t help either, hehe. I can’t wait for the rematch though
Thanks a ton for the great experience Moki, it was awesome, but I’ll have to smoke a few more to get this one figured out. It is just very complex for me right now. I put this cigar in the top 5 of any I’ve smoked. I’m dizzy as I write this.
We’ll have to see what the other 589th BOTLs think about it after they have theirs, but I’m sure it’ll be great reviews all around.
