Knuck42 (Bill) coming home (hopefully)

That's right Gary. If he would have had the surgery in Tegus, there's no telling how long he would have to stay until he can get back on his feet. He's got a wife and kids here, so I'm glad he's returning today. It didn't come cheap, though. Insurance isn't paying for it and the price tag is $23,000. Believe it or not, this is actually a bargain.

I was wondering about that. I considered that I'd mortgage everything to get myself/spouse/family member out of there.

Isy, I know he's not Bill Gates, and I assume he's picking up the cost of the transport himself. Maybe we could pass the hat amongst the CPers and guys who know from the shop to see if we could help ease the cost for his family. I'd be willing to pitch in.

That's really great of you Bob. From what I heard, his brother will be picking up the tab. I'm sure Bill will have to pay him back, since I know his brother is no Bill Gates, either. I would definitely be willing to arrange something like that both here and on another forum that I know he is active on. I, however, am a member but not at all active on the other board. I know there are some members here who are active members there. Maybe we can combine the effort. I will see Bill tonight in Albany when he arrives at the hospital and I'll update everyone here. Thanks again for the offer, Bob. Very classy of you, bro.

Wow...prayers sent for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

Rob

Billy should be arriving at Albany airport at about 7pm. GREAT news!

Wow I am sorry to hear it is worse than we thought. At least he is coming home. I think Bob's idea is great. We should definitely try and get some money together for him. I know if I had to pay 23,000 to return home it would be devastating.

My Prayers are with you Bill.

Dennis

Glad he's back!

Let us know what we might do to help.

Anyway to send a little somehting to help with expenses...or a cheesecake? :D

Does anyone mind if I cut and paste Isy's OP and place it on another forum where Bill is a member?

Go ahead Rob. I am not active at all on CF, but I know Bill is, so I posted there as well. I know he's on a few others, but I don't know which ones. An update: Just got off the phone with him and he got out of surgery. The surgery went well, but he's too out of it to talk. He managed to tell me that the doctors were happy with the procedure.

Thanks, I posted it on ICC.

From avoxo on CF:

"Now that we are back from our Rocky Patel Factory Trip, we have some new exciting events planned. On Saturday, June 13th, we will be having a all-day long La Flor Dominicana Block Party, with guests coming in from NY, NJ, CA, WA and states in between. We will be offering specials all day on all La Flor Dominicana products, including the newly released and very limited Salomones and the even more limited, El Museo, made by Litto Gomez, with extremely rare and aged tobaccos. Each box is individually numbered and Litto commissioned Cuban-American artist Ruben Toledo to design the artwork on the bands and the box. The proceeds of this cigar go to the El Barrio Museo in Harlem, NY, a project near and dear to Litto's heart. Join us Saturday, June 13th, 2008, as we kick it Uptown-style, here in store and on the street. We'll be eating, drinking, smoking, and partying the day away until the very last person gives in! For those of you staying late, we are arranging a special dinner at Le Canard Enchaine, Kingston's premier Zagat rated French restaurant. This is an event you don't want to miss!
This local event will have several raffles and a dinner in a great restaurant with proceeds going to help Bill aka knuck42 to cover some of his medical expenses, please come..please donate items for the raffle, a bank account is being set up to send funds too as well, i will be donating maduro opus to the raffle to spice things up!!! Bill is a local CFer who has been very kind to me and is a true BOTL and I want to try and help..please contact me or the store to find out more, thanks!!! Tom"

It looks like Uptown is having an event.

Tom and I were thinking of auctioning off certain donated items with 100% of the proceeds going to Bill's medical expenses. While we will definitely have raffles for all the participants, this is something additional that we would like to do. It was just posted this morning on CF by Tom and we will see what kind of reponses we get. Uptown Cigar will also have some items that can be used for this auction, as well.
