Hello fellows!
I am having a problem lately with my cigars...
I don't know if I am storing them wrong or what!
Last month I got a case of some 4 7/8 by 60 Casa Magna (toritos), and recently I am having trouble getting the cigar to burn and to stay lit... It's hard to get any smoke from the stogies and I constantly have to keep puffing on them =(
I don't know if its because the RH is too high or what!? I haven't smoked a whole lot of them and I believed that the very few that I smoked were fine...
I just recently got a decent Hygrometer so my smoke could have been "over humidified" for a month or so...
Would that be a problem? If this is the cause how long do I have to store them for, and at what RH I know that the RH should be arounf 70% but since I think they are over humid should I leave them at lower then 65% or not?

So... help guys...

PS: the search tool bar was used... =)

Just a question. Are they really tight (hard to draw on)? Is this why you are "constantly puffing"?

Dry box one for a day then smoke away. That should help until your RH stabilizes. I keep all mine at 65% and never have any problems. Plenty of factors will determine how long it will take to stabilize your cigars to a new RH (size of humi, boxes, quantity, etc). And I agree with Los, clipping/punching first goes a long way.

Leave one out(dry boxed) for a full 24-36 hours then try it.

As others have stated, dry box them. Like DirtyDave said, these things have been shipping very wet, I've smoked three from a recent shipment and I had similar problems with them.

wait... I have to cut the cigar?
But if you cut it, I am afraid that it would unravel!

I will dry store em a bit and see how it goes!
I just got some need beads from Rob!

THANKS GUYS

Well, you've bought a box and there's not much you can do about it now, but I wouldn't smoke a 60 ring ga. cigar on a bet. They're just trouble. In the future stick to 50 and below.

Doc.

Ahhh? why would you no smoke a 60 RG?
Are they typically hard to keep lit?

gahau,

I kept my humi at 70-75%, an found that I was constantly having burn issues, and occasionally draw issues.

I decided to try dry boxing, and it made a world of difference. I don't use a box though. I just set them out in my office. It actually works like a charm because I can leave them there for a long time if I don't get to smoking them right away...the humidity in my basement is 60-65% year-round.

You can also go to 65% in your humi as is recommended by most. The reason I didn't do this is I read it's actually better to store your cigars long-term (aging) at a slightly higher humidity, depending on wrapper thickness. (Source: Oliva website and Nat Sherman's - A Passion for Cigars)

What you certainly want to avoid is fluctuations in humidity and temperature.

BTW...thoroughly enjoyed the Casa Magna Torito you sent me. I liked it better than the robusto.

Well, I confirmed with three other B&M's that they were indeed all having problems with the latest shipments of the Casa Magnas. They were shipped very wet, and pretty much need to be dry boxed before smoking. I bought another robusto, and I again had problems with it going out constantly. Oh well. :(

When I have smokes that won't stay lit, I like to duct tape 'em to the shop vac and let 'er rip for a few seconds. Get that burn hot as hell and they won't go out. Or, just leave them on the shop vac and take power hits off the vacuum exhaust. Works every time.....:whistling:
