While watching the OU/Boise St game this evening, I got a wild hair and decided to see what I have spent on cigars in the last 6 months. Why do this? That is a good question but it may be to shock myself into actually sticking to a budget this year instead of just buying on impulse. Nevertheless, it was shocking once the calculations were complete and I would ask that the rest of you please refrain from doing this or prepare to stutter the following: "holy shit :0 - really? - that's gotta be wrong - ??? how in the hell?" Happy New Year!

Jonas

I did that last week and have made a budget as well.

I was shocked at how many bills I could have paid with what I paid for cigars in the last 3 months.

I will allot myself a certain amount per paycheck for cigars as well as a little bonus with tax refund and profit sharing. I hope this will keep my spending in check.

Hope being the key word. :whistling:

Everything in moderation is the key

Truer words are never spoken than this pearl of wisdom. It's quite easy to get out of control at times, but I try to minimize it as much as possible. I've only gone over my budget once, and it was only by about $30.00.

Now, if I kept a budget on my fishing equipment purchases... :0 :0 :0

After you calculate everything, you will probably think, "I spent a lot of money!" Then you'll probably think, "I could have bought this box instead of some of this stuff." After that you'll think, "If I buy this box now, I don't have to think about it."

The hell with that! Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, that's the key. I'm here for a good time; not a long time.
Oh, and speaking of math. I calculated how many cigars I've smoked in the past 34 yrs. Now that's scary. 3 cigars a day X 365 X 34 = Oh my f@#$57g god!
Doc.

One of my New Years Resolutions was to smoke a little less, so I don't cut into my stockpile so much.

So far for today I've got lined up a Padron Ambassador, an Avo Domaine 40, a Don Pepin Garcia, an Anejo, a DCM Stanfords' 90th....

Just as long as the wife doesn't know I am golden.. She has to have some idea though, she was with me when I bought the Anjeos and the box of GOF. Oh well the way I look it is cigars are the hobby/vice I really have. Hell some guys spend just as much on their cars or boats or other things. The key is, that is a hobby!!

Jonas a couple years back on my motorcycle site someone posted a similar topic. Basically the jist of it was to add up the amount of accessories you'd put into your bike. I looked at the topic for a couple months and never did the math, it just didn't interest me.

Then I broke down and added everything up! ??? Come to find out, I put about another 70% of my bikes total original cost into accessories, paint and so forth. The next day I called my ins agent and had a rider put on my policy to cover accessories. Three weeks later I totaled my bike! Timing is everything!

I don't want to add what I spent on cigars in the last 6 months.

Good post Jonas.

That is a scary number that I hope to rival someday doc!

Good post Jonas.

I can imagine the kinda money you could throw at a bike. I am trying to talk the wifey into letting me get a beater classic to restore, but she seems to think it could be quite an expensive venture, smart woman.. Now lets see what kind of pull I still have around here! ???

Unfortunately for you Jonas, she's more accurate than you may think. It's nuts on what it costs to update a new bike, but taking a older vintage one....get the checkbook ready!

Find an old wooden boat that needs restoration or figure up the numbers to build a new one from the ground up. Show her those numbers, then the numbers for the bike. After seeing what the boat would cost the bike will look VERY good...:whistling:

Chasing the "specials" the last couple of months really hit hard. I will be well into next year before spending anohter dime (or alt least later this month).

I figure if I dont spend more than $1200 a month on cigars, then I wont go over my monthly budget. :D
