Working our way to points south and southeast, have been staying in and around Staniel Cay and Sampson Cay for the last few days. The fishing has been gangbusters - wahoo and kings are running, and the spearfishing/lobstering has been excellent as well. Awesome warm weather, tight lines, EXCELLENT smokes, plenty of libations - rum and kalik - and excellent food...conch salad, conch fritters, lobster, fish, fish, fish, lobster, fish....all outstanding.

Wanted to stop in on this very spotty wi-fi spot and just wish all my brothers and sisters a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, etc. Won't be back Stateside for a while and don't know when I'll have wi-fi access again...probably not until St. Thomas at least...so, Happy New Year as well.

Take care brothers...

Enjoy it my friend...

My wife were there about 18 years ago.
It was a very sleepy island then.
Only a couple of planes a week onto and off of the island.
Back then, phone calls off of the island had to be completed by 6pm.
That's when the operator went home for the night. :D

The food was great then and it sounds like it's still great.

Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

It still is a sleepy island...hasn't ever gotten to the level of Nassau or Freeport...at least not yet. Been coming here regularly since roughly 1994, probably at least 4-5 times per year. Most of the islands are very sleepy, very quiet, very...Bahamian. From my window right now, I've been watching the locals try to erect a Direct TV dish for the bar, which has had a place for television for the last couple of years...the lcd arrived today. Some cays are "fancier" than others, such as Fowl or Sampson, or even Little Pipe...but Staniel and especially Compass are still rather old school style. Staniel is just a little more crowded now...they even just picked up ONE police truck. Sampson here has 9 people that live on it.

Compared to 14 years ago though, it's much more...polished now. Still typical Bahmian fare through and through. Heading out in a few days via charter plane to St. Thomas, where I'll be back on a chartered 60' cat for exploring all the islands down to Dominica, fishing and smoking plenty of cigars along the way. Still prefer the VIs, but can never stay away from the Bahamas too long. Didn't plan on stopping by now, but had a buddy on a 157'er phone me and the wifey up so we stopped by.

Now...off to happy hour at the bar. Cheers brothers...I'll raise several for you all and smoke even more.

Smooth sailing, brother! Drop an ash in the tropical waters for me. That'll be as close as I get. :D

Safe journeys,
Wilkey

Happy New Year MC!

Nothing like searching for wi-fi connections in tropical waters.... ROTFLMAO

MC smooth seas and great ashes to you!

Keep us posted as you find those special connections. Oh bye the way can you map them out for us. You never can tell when one of us may be down that way ;)

Good to hear, seems like you had a great Holiday Season. Enjoy and burn one for all of us

MC you're living my dream holidays, always wanted to do that. I'm glad you're having a blast. Keep on drinking and smokin for all of us here. I'm heading to Nassau in march to visit a friend, so I'll get my long needed island time soon...
