Has any one tried any of the JR Cigars Alternatives? I live about a mile away from one of there stores, and I always get there catalogs with all the various alternatives claiming they are almost as good as the original. I think they come in packs of ten, but I could be wrong. I figured I would see if anyone had any feedback before I went and wasted my time.

Yea, they're not too bad if you look at them without the preconceived notion that they are supposed to be as good as the original. By themselves, the originals aside, they're decent. Now, I say this with only one caveat, with any alternative it's going to be a crap shoot. You're going to get a few good ones and a few really awful ones in the same bundle. The consistency is horrible. You might get lucky and get a bundle that's mostly decent sticks...or you might get unlucky.

I used to get the Edicion Limitada Monte C's and they were one of the best of the JR Alt's that I've tried. Again, they weren't great...and I got a lot of really crappy ones, but they weren't too bad. I don't smoke 'em anymore though, it's just not worth my time and money to waste life away smoking Alts...but, one man's dog rocket is another man's PAM.

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll grab some next time I go over there, but probably not haha!!

I think they suck. They all taste the same, no matter what they're supposedly an "alternative" to. If you're looking for cheap smokes, I'd go with Connies or Cuba Aliados instead of these things.

Why bother with generics?

Well, let's see... not everyone has a lot of money to spend on cigars...

I know I'm on a tight budget. YMMV...

Well that's the point. If you're not able to spend the money on quality cigars that's a shame, but to spend money on inferior smokes seems to be a waste of your resources. Besides, there are a lot of quality cigars from reputable companies that don't cost an arm and a leg. Buying these so called "alternatives" is money misspent, and I have to agree with Coventry Cat in that the taste from one to the other is indistinguishable...and inferior.

I bought some when they were having a sale and I was still in the Corps and broke. They aren't bad... you can get better but I've definitely had worse.

I've had a few decent ones and a lot of crappy ones as my girlies dad loves being a cheapskate and loves JR. Took forever for him to dump Thompson brands, talk about ick.

I recommend something like Connie Maduro's, Tampa Sweetheart bundles, or try to find Padron's on sale.

If you want to find out for yourself on the JR's do this. Don't look at the "Alternative to" at all. Figure out if you like Nic, Honduran, DR profiles, then you can select a size that you prefer.

When you smoke them, keep in mind that they are yard gar's, and if you get a good one or whole bundle, then it's a bonus.

The Limatada Monti C's that I recently got have all been pretty solid smokes, I've smoked 4 or 5 out of the bundle so far and enjoyed them all, oh and they come in 20 count bundles.

Thanks for all the feedback, I ended sticking to my usual and ran to a local B&M and picked up a bunch Of AF Hemmingways, A few Ashtons VGS and a NUB(which I am still yet to try) saving money is for suckers!

I have had a few diffrent types of theres, I don't mind them for the price you pay like a buck each, You get what you pay for and every now and then get a suprise :)

If you like them then hey, Its all about what you enjoy not what others think :)
