It is you you you

I will say though, that for a long time I just listened to the music of "my generation" and it's only been in the last 5-6 years that I've really started to get big into digging back into the roots of the music I like. I love rock now so I've been listening to a lot of Hedrix, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, etc. I also like heavy metal so I've been listening to more Sabbath, Judas Priest, King Diamond, Motorhead, and others. It's awesome to listen to one of those "classic rock" albums, and then listen to a more modern album, because after a while you start to pick up on the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) influences that are there.
Yeah, I wonder why?

You're just my enabler, who happens to have every good musicians entire catalog on file. Thank you.

Here I thought it was just because you were getting older and reflecting on your life and the life of others more :p

There is an older fella I work with who, when asked if he listened to heavy metal, pulled out a Black Sabbath CD and proceeded to jam out. I have much respect for every band mentioned here but I just call em like I see em. Deep Purple, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, GnR, AC/DC etc. are all classic rock now-a-days.

"There are more things on heaven and earth, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

That's like saying Fats Domino ain't Rock 'n Roll

Doc.

Sure in the 40's/50's or whatever he was Rock 'n Roll, so was Elvis. Now it's oldies.

Once it's RnR, it's always RnR. When I think "oldies", I think Pat Boone, or Petula Clark or this abomination. [Another challenge (open to all but Doc): name a soon to be famous member of this band performing awkwardly in the video. No Google.] Back to the point, I consider The Killer or the Big Bopper or any of the pioneers of rock and roll regardless of time lapsed.

It would have been a better question if the answer wasn't on the linked page ;)

It is you, oh yeah
It is you, oh yeah

I said a cigar bomb,
Oh bombing, oh yeah
Cigars gonna drop on you
I said bombing run
Oh bombing, oh yeah
Cigars gonna drop on you

I said when it drops
Oh you gonna feel it
Oh that you were doin' it wrong, wrong, wrong
Now when it drops
Oh you gonna feel it
That you were doin' it wrong and how

I said when it drops
You gonna feel it
That you've been doin' it wrong
Now when it drops, drop
You gonna feel it
That you've been doin' wrong

Now when it drops, drop
Feel it
You make the wrong move
Now when it drops, drop
You gonna feel it
That you've been it doin' wrong

I said a cigar bomb,
Oh bombing, oh yeah
Cigars gonna drop on you
I said bombing run
Oh bombing, oh yeah
Cigars gonna drop on you

Now when it drops on your dirty little head
Where you gonna go?
It's you, you, you
When it drop on, oh you're gonna feel it
What you're doing is wrong, wrong, wrong
Cigar, cigar, cigar, cigar...
I said a cigar bomb

Payback.

Back on topic now.

That was uncalled for, Ray, but I certainly appreciate it. You think a guy could stay one step ahead of you for at least a week.

Doc.

I said it was you and you were the first to reply......funny how that works out. Since you couldn't make the herf, the herf comes to you. The swag is just a little extra.

Simply one of the most ludicrous statements I have ever read.

Metallica was the beginning of Heavy Metal.
PJ

I understand why you say that. It did not come across well. I meant the in the definition of the word Heavy Metal they had to have been in front of the crowd. I never heard Sabbath, Zepplin, Kiss, or any other forefathers called Heavy Metal.

PJ

Nice hit by the way and a fine conversation you started as well.

Having lived through that time I can assure you that Sabbath, early Zep, at least the first Kiss album, Deep Purple, Blue Cheer, King Crimson - don't think so? Listen to 21st Century Schizoid Man. Priest, Motorhead, and Iron Maiden with Hawkwind and in its own odd way even ZZ Top (which formed in 1969) all at some point were as heavy metal as you could get in the decade of the late 60's to late 70's. Metallica, Slayer, Wasp et al didn't spring up from nothing, they built on what came before.

I was listening to all this and still do, no question that these bands were influencial I just never heard any of them called Heavy Metal until the early 80's. Now it could just be I was still in short pants and paid no attention. :whistling:

Now Iron Maiden I consider to be my favorite band of all time, I own every album they made (to my knowledge), but what do you mean here?

PJ

Insert "along" after Maiden.
