Well, here it is a week from the CP herf and my week+ of vacation, and I'm home with a splitting earache. In the past this has always meant "sinus infection" so it's off to the primary care doc this AM for some antibiotics. I think I'll start the exorcism with a Pepin Lancero (thank you, Al...!!) and a huge cup 'o fresh ground coffee.

...s#!t. It always happens when you get ready to go on vacation. I guess that means you are burned out from work and need a vacation, but......damn.

Grumble, grumble.....B.B.S.

Try garlic in your ear.

I tried garlic in my ear.

I simply took a large enough piece of clove and cross cut the tip and squeezed a little - then put it in my ear (while I lay on my side - bad ear up!...for 10-15 minutes).

I did this twice in one night....ear ache was gone!

It did burn feel warm - but not intolerable.

<edit to tell you what helped me. - thanks DD>

Damn, hope you're 100% by the time of the CP Herf! Keep a stiff upper lip, or just say fuzz it!

Hmmm, It seems i'm always getting sick just before Christmas. I think its the extra work plus the stress and the fact that i'm usually due for a break. Good luck i'm sure you'll be better in time for the festivities.

Ear infections in adults is nothing to mess with. Glad to hear your going to your Dr. Save the folk medicine for warts and such.

"A review study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in September '93 found no significant difference between placebo and antibiotics in at least eight studies of long term outcome, and concludes that antibiotics are of "limited" short-term usefulness in treating acute middle ear infections, and that the data do not show them to confer any long-term benefits for draining middle ear infections. The agency for Health Care Policy and Research recommends "watchful waiting" instead of antibiotics as the first step in treatment of non-acute otitis media." - from 1993 study

Yes - it's good to see a DR.,, but drugs aren't always the solution (did I really just say that?!)

Hope you get better by the fly time next week Bro!!

Last time I had an ear infection, I got it while we were in Vegas. Too much time lying under the misters by the pool in 100+ weather. And then into the lovely air conditioned casino's. I thought it was just an allergy until we descended into Seattle, and then it felt like a mongoose was trying to chew its way out of my ear!! The poor old lady next to us must have thought I was dying!

I don't believe I said he should have anti-biotics, only that he should consult with his physician because middle ear infections are uncommon in adults. A culture and sensitivity will determine what course of action should be taken. And by the way I learned a long time ago that if it burns, it probably ain't good for you.

You're correct - my wording should have been 'feels warm'...but hey, that's the healing! :D

I had a few ladies along the way teach me that lesson...

Edited to add...

Hope you get over this damn quick BBS.

I'm fairly certain you'll have something to make you feel better in your mailbox today or tomorrow :whistling:

Sorry to hear about your illness, Tom. You've got a week to kick its ass so get well soon.

Don't listen to these blowhards ... take some sudafed right away, then blast it with antibiotics ... you don't have time to be messin with this. You should probably stay away from the lancero ... at least for a couple days. There will be plenty of time to smoke in Vegas!!!

Man My Mother called me last year, she had her first inner ear infection. She call to apologies to me because I had them every summer as a kid, and they still give me trouble today.

This is nothing to play with. They can make you sick, throw your equal Librium way off, and a number of other things. Rest Keep it plugged GO TO THE DOC.

Good luck

Jay

You guys are the best. Thanks a million for all the nice comments and wishes. I probably whine too much sometimes.....

Saw the doc this AM and sure enough I've got a bit of an inner ear infection going on. She hooked me up with some antibiotics and told me in two to three days I'd be back in full "ass kicking" mode....in plenty of time for Vegas....

See you guys there, and thanks again - B.B.S.

Glad to hear it Bro! I will give you and the Miss's a shout when we get in on Thursday next week...We gotta kick the weekend off with a good smoke!!
