ISOM question

Plus there is the fact that Cohibas are probably the most faked cigars out there.

it does have the triple cap, just checked. So now that we know that both of these cigars are aged (the Cohiba probably since the early 90's, and the bolivar, probably just about as long) which one should I smoke first? Also, if I like these two cigars, will i notice a completely different tasting cigar if is get newer cigars of the same size and smoke them? will it be bad or just different?
thanks again for the info

My wife picked up some for me when she was in Cancun earlier this year. I told her to go the the LCDH ONLY, which she didn't. The Trini Fundadores tasted real from what I've had before. The Cohiba, however, was fake as hell. My .02 cents.

What does LCDH stand for?

Talking to the woman about them last night...said her dad wouldn't let her buy them on her own, so he went out and bought them for her. He ended up keeping the new ones and giving me the same cigars that had already been aged. Again I don't know how long, but the bands look "oiley" if that makes any sense. The wrappes feel great, so I'm guessing they have been aged for a fairly long time. I hear everyones argument about how prevelant fakes are especially down in Mexico. I guess the only reason I'm not all that concerned about it is because I know her father fairly well, and there is no one I trust more than him when it comes to cigars. So, I do believe they are real, and am planning on smoking one either this weekend, or in a couple weeks on vacation. Can't wait. With that said, I have one more question:

Is it a bad idea to post links to the pictures of the ISOMs I have on the web? Is that like admitting guilt that I have them? I don't expect anyone from the government to come hunting me down, but in general is it OK to post ISOM pictures or is that frowned upon?

Thanks for all the comments.

Looks to me like you've got a Bolivar Coronas Gigantes and a Cohiba Esplendidos. Smoke the Boli first and then the Cohiba. Best way to tell how superior Cohibas really are :D

Unfortunately I agree with moki. They are most likely fake if bought anywhere other then an LCDH.

Well, I finally got around to smoking one of these this past weekend. I took lucasbuck's advice and smoked the Bolivar first. I'm now convinced that the best way to tell if a ISOM is real or not is to smoke it! Definitely wasn't the most full-bodied cigar I've ever had, not sure if it was even the very best cigar I ever had, but it definitely was like no other cigar I've had! From the very first puff of smoke, it was a flavor that was very distinct from the cigars I normally smoke. It burned almost perfectly even the entire time. The draw was great and I got mouthfuls of smoke from the very beginning! Anyways, if lucasbuck is right, I don't think that Cohiba will be sitting around too much longer! Once that one is gone, I don't know what I'm gonna do...have to somehow convince the woman that if I get them from reputable sources that the chances of the government beating down our front door is slim and none!

Thanks for everyones input, but I'm afraid that just like OpusX, this Cuban will lead to many more! Great for the soul, terrible for the wallet sometimes! Well worth it though!

Bchem, Since you have only smoked 3 or 4 Cubans cigars hold on to your opinions until you have had the chance to trade/buy some more of what you just smoked.

You have to admit that even if it was real you don't have the palate to tell weather it was or wasn't. just because the cigar burned consistently is not a sign of authenticity. I have had many Cubans burn unevenly and the draw was tight. to be quite honest I think more Cubans have these troubles than other cigars with better quality control.

I have learned a lot about cigars in my short stay here and everything I thought I knew was wrong. I have some fine Cuban smokes in the humi but I would say there are just as good or better Dominican Cigars out there.

My palate has just started to refine itself in the past few months. Cuban cigars have a distinct taste and I believe I could pick one out in a blindfolded taste test.

The Bolivar is a great smoke, the Cohiba Esplendidos is probably the most faked Cuban cigar in the world.

Welcome to Cigarpass and the world of fine cigars.

You are absolutely right, I wouldn't know if it was real or not just by taste alone. Maybe I shouldn't have stated it the way I did because from the way I worded it, it sounds like I could tell a Cuban cigar just by the way it tastes. I wish that were true, but it's not, and probably won't be for quite some time. Like I said, from reading and talking about Cubans, I believe from the looks of it, and the source, that it was legit. Either way, it was totally different from what I was used to smoking and was all in all a great cigar and I enjoyed it tremendously (even if it was fake). However, like I said, I trust my source tremendously, but I guess there really is no guarantee unless you get them with your own two hands. As far as the burn thing goes, that was just an observation. I agree with you that just because a cigar burns perfectly, doesn't neccessarily mean it's a good smoke. I guess the best example that comes to my mind is when I smoked an OpusX (forget what size) but had some uneven burning that I had to correct a few times throughout the cigar. Great, great, great, cigar, yet not the best burn. Luckily, the flavor of the cigar was still amazing.

Anyways, I didn't mean to come off like I could tell cuban from non-cuban tobacco just by taste, I just figured that since I posted the topic and there was a little bit of controversy, I wanted to let everyone know that I smoked one of the cigars in question, and regardless of its origin, it was excellent. I almost hope it was fake, because if it was, I REALLY can't wait to try a real one! haha! Thanks for the correction though, I honestly didn't mean to come across as saying that just by the taste I was totally convinced it was Cuban.

I'll do some more research on this site and see if I can't land a couple of the same brand and size cigars that I have to compare with. Once I get that done, I'll post and/or PM you and let you know what I think. Have a good one.

Matt

Hey, it was a free cigar, and it sounds like you enjoyed it! Hopefully you'll have the same experience with the other one. Cuban or not, enjoy the gift. You could smoke hundreds of different fantastic cigars for the rest of your life without ever needing to acquire Cubans, so I wouldn't worry so much about it.

You stated your WIFE bought the cigars in Mexico then your FATHER INLAW took the cigars your wife bought and exchanged them for two of his....It sounds to me like your wife might have bought fakes and her father recognized them as such and not wanting to spoil her surprise gave her 2 real Habanos to give to you. If this is the case he is a good man in my book!!
